- Under general supervision, performs routine breakdown and preventive maintenance (PM) that includes inspection and repair of plant machinery/mechanisms, manufacturing and/or facilities related equipment.
- Performs breakdown maintenance by troubleshooting, repairing and documenting maintenance procedures.
- May interact with management, engineering and vendors regarding new machinery/equipment selection, specifications, and set-up.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Actively participates and contributes to machine improvements.
- Actively supports all environmental and recycling efforts including the disposal of hazardous materials.
- May need to be HAZMAT certified.
- Adheres to all corporate and department safety guidelines and procedures.
- Attends safety training classes to keep current.
- Assembles equipment and special machines from designs and sketches.
- Installs and may design guards or other safety equipment to eliminate identified safety hazards.
- Documents modifications, repair, set-ups, maintenance, PM and safety procedures to insure reliability, quality control and improve overall operation of equipment.
- Given a control diagram constructs, wires, and interfaces an electrical panel with equipment.
- Inspects, adjusts, programs, and repairs machinery/mechanisms/controls and equipment according as to PM assigned.
- May be responsible for mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical work on equipment.
- Insures the working area, tools and equipment are maintained in a clean, organized and safe manner.
- Moves, relocates, and installs plant machinery, manufacturing and/or facilities related equipment.
- Perform the rebuilding of plant machinery components, manufacturing and/or facilities related equipment.
- Recommends and may be involved in minor systems modifications under the direction of management and engineering.
- Recommends spare parts for inventory to provide equipment reliability.
- Required to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
- Responsible for all repairs and installation of electrical systems and components less than 500 volts.
- Troubleshoots electrical problems including, but not limited to: power circuits, relay logic systems, PLC systems, and facilities related systems.

Licenses and Certifications / Skills and Abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent education required.
- Must have a DOL Electrical Journeyman's license and a valid state electrical license where the position is located.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must obtain a Herman Miller, Inc. forklift ,and aerial platform or other equipment operator's license.
- Other equipment licensing as required by location or assignment.
- Demonstrated technical aptitude is required for this level.
- Must have the ability to interpret schematic drawings, diagrams and printed instructions to assist in trouble shooting and resolving electrical/mechanical problems on plant machinery, manufacturing and/or facilities related equipment.
- Computer literacy necessary.
- Some overnight, and possibly overseas, travel required for machine qualification runs and technical training.
