The Accountant role supports theRevenue Accounting & Settlement Team and is responsible for the accounting related to Accounts Receivable and various Revenue streams. This role will collaborate with various partners to identify processes and areas for improvement, supporting internal and external audit processes while ensuring proper documentation is provided to auditors. They'll complete posting journal entries, perform reconciliations, and analyze variances and discrepancies in financial performance. The Accountant is detail-oriented with a continuous improvement mindset, ready to help pilot the future of Southwest's financial accounting.

Responsibilities
- Perform month end close tasks that may include posting journal entries, performing reconciliations, and managing asset creation and retirement processes on a monthly and quarterly basis
- Prepare and present financial information to different audiences, including finance leaders, business partners, and auditors
- Conduct variance analysis to explain discrepancies between planned and actual financial performance
- Analyzes financial data for accuracy; identifies problems and prepare forecasts to support financial planning
- Collaborate with internal teams to gather relevant financial information.
- Support the annual audit process, including ensuring financial transactions are substantiated with proper documentation for auditing purposes
- Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for internal and external stakeholders in accordance with GAAP and Company policy
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and transformation that will provide value within the organization
- May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, and the analysis and reporting of financial data
- Skilled in the use of all Microsoft Office Suite products, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, Access, and PowerPoint presentations, and trainable on company-specific systems
- Ability to effectively communicate, written and verbally, information and ideas using all forms of communication, learning to adjust tone, style, and content to meet the audience's needs
- Ability to develop relationships and build trust with Team Members and Customers
- Ability to articulate how research and analysis were performed in preparing analytics in support of financial reporting
- Ability to create financial spreadsheets, charts, and reports that contain relevant accounting and financial performance data with some supervision and guidance
- Skilled in identifying problems and reviewing related information to develop solutions
- Ability to establish personal best practices to manage responsibilities
- Skilled in asking insightful questions and listening to understand all perspectives with a solid understanding of Business impacts
Education
- Required: High School Diploma or GED
- Required: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
Experience
- Intermediate level experience, fully functioning broad knowledge in:
- Accounting principles and practices
- Financial statements and reports
- Preferred: Experience in SAP, Workiva, Blackline, and Excel
Physical Abilities
- Ability to perform work duties from limited space workstation/desk/office area for extended periods of time
- Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
- Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
- Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
- Must meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary, and sensitive Company information
- Must have flexibility to work extended hours during the week and weekend, including Company holidays, during quarterly close or special projects
Pay & Benefits
Competitive market salary from $82,800 per year to $92,000 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
