POSITION SPECIFICS

The Penn State Abington Division of Student Affairs seeks a dynamic and engaging individual, who is committed to advancing leadership through community service, volunteerism, and high-impact experiences. The Community and Volunteer Service Coordinator is a key member of the Student Engagement and Leadership team and serves in an on-site capacity. Working collaboratively with campus and community partners, the coordinator is responsible for providing direct support and guidance to students while developing programs, initiatives, and resources that promote civic engagement, social responsibility, and meaningful community involvement.

Responsibilities

The coordinator's responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing community service and volunteer programs

  • Facilitating signature learning experiences (ie. Alternative Spring Break)

  • Partnering with student organizations to design and implement programs that promote leadership in civic, local and global activism

  • Advising and supporting student organizations with event planning, including room reservation, catering and marketing.

  • Serving as a member of the Division of Student Affairs programming team, contributing to significant events such as New Student Orientation, Welcome Days, Spring Fest, student organization training and development, and other campus wide events)

  • Hiring and supervision of student staff

The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication, and organizational skills. They will be flexible, creative, empathetic and demonstrate a desire to work in a student-facing, fast-paced environment, as part of a student-focused team that promotes and cultivates an environment that is welcoming, inclusive, and supportive. The position requires working on some evening and weekend events.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, or coordinating community service and/or volunteer programs

  • Ability to facilitate training, workshops, panels, dialogues, and discussions

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship building skills, with the ability to engage diverse student populations and community partners

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently as well as collaboratively within a team

Abington, PA is a northern suburb of Philadelphia known for its diversity and accessibility. Located just 45 minutes outside of center city, residents can easily travel to and from Philadelphia and Abington's surrounding communities such as Willow Grove, Glenside, Roslyn, and Jenkintown by SEPTA trains, regional rails, and buses, making it an ideal place to live and work.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $46,400.00 - $67,300.00.
