About the Opportunity: We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Tax to lead and manage all aspects of the company's global tax strategy. Reporting directly to the CFO, this individual will be responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and international tax regulations, managing tax planning and strategy, overseeing tax audits, and providing guidance on the tax implications of business decisions. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise with leadership capabilities and a proactive, hands-on approach. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of tax laws and regulations and a proven track record of delivering successful results. This is a highly strategic and hands-on leadership role requiring expertise in complex global tax structures and U.S. and international compliance. Location: Manchester, CT Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage all aspects of the organization's tax compliance and planning activities
- Develop and implement comprehensive tax strategies that align with the company's business objectives.
- Lead the preparation and filing of all tax returns, including income, sales, property, and other tax types.
- Conduct research on tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance
- Manage tax audits and negotiations with government agencies
- Provide tax guidance and support to senior management
- Stay up to date on tax laws and regulations and communicate any changes to relevant stakeholders
- Develop and maintain relationships with tax authorities and external tax advisors
- Maintaining strong financial reporting controls including required technical expertise, reporting systems, and related processes specific to GAAP compliance
- Prepare or review quarterly and annual tax provision calculations
- Ensure accurate reporting of tax accounts in financial statements
- Lead the response to tax audits and manage associated risk
- Collaborate with finance, legal, and business units on cross-functional projects
- Educate internal stakeholders on tax policies and implications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance or Business.
- CPA Certification required.
- At least 7 years of progressive tax experience, including public accounting and/or corporate tax leadership, with significant exposure to multinational operations and complex tax structures
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time bases without sponsorship now or in the future. The Company cannot offer employment to visa holders who require employer sponsorship in the future or cannot work now on a full-time basis.
- Must be able to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in public accounting (Big 4 or equivalent) preferred
- Exposure to international tax issues, transfer pricing, and cross-border transactions
- Proficiency in tax software and ERP systems (e.g., OneSource, Corptax, SAP)
- Deep technical knowledge of international tax principles, transfer pricing, U.S. tax compliance, and cross- border taxation.
- Proven leadership experience managing cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
- Prior experience developing and leading presentations to executive leadership teams.
- Strong analytical, financial modeling, and data analysis skills.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to simplify complex financial concepts to executive leadership.
- High level of integrity, ethics, and professional judgment.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, private equity-backed environment with global operations.
- Experience in aerospace and/or manufacturing
Working Conditions
- Must be able to have prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to frequently sit, stand and walk.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.
- Personal protective equipment (e.g., safety glasses and safety shoes) is required on the shop floor
- Occasional weekend and evening work may be required to accommodate priorities, deadlines, and schedules.
