Description Cover Letter RequiredPosition Purpose Lead activities of the Arizona Monarch Collaborative (AMC). Collaborate with regional and national conservation organizations. Essential Duties * Lead activities of the AMC, including scheduling and organizing bi-monthly Steering Committee meetings, annual in-person meetings, land manager workshops, outreach activities and field trips * Communicate with AMC partners, including writing monthly newsletters, updating the website, use of social media, and maintenance of email contact list * Develop and write state coordinator toolkit as a resource for other states in collaboration with Steering Committee * Oversee revision and finalization of Voluntary State Implementation Plan for Monarchs, with support from Steering Committee * Write new Voluntary State Implementation Plan for other at-risk pollinators, with support from Steering Committee * Participate in and help coordinate the Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies Monarch and Native Insect Pollinator Working Group, attend in-person meetings where feasible as a representative of Arizona * Promote community science efforts within the state, including Desert Refuge, Western Monarch Milkweed Mapper, Monarch Larva Monitoring Project, Integrative Monarch Monitoring Protocol, and Southwest Monarch Study. Assist community members with selecting and participating in community science efforts. * Attend and work with AMC committees (Outreach and Management, Plant Materials and Restoration, and Research and Monitoring) to accomplish specific statewide goals * Develop outreach materials that promote the unique ecology of Arizona pollinators * Attend outreach events and give presentations as a representative of Arizona Monarch Collaborative * Meet and collaborate with other pollinator and conservation groups as appropriate * Work to broaden participation in AMC by conservation groups * Serve as a resource for Arizonans to find appropriate resources for monarch and pollinator conservation and make connections with AMC partners and collaborators * Gather and prepare metrics related to AMC activities, including participation, audiences reached, and goals achieved * Assist to develop charter with the Steering Committee to structure and codify roles within AMC * Assist with grant proposals as needed Requirements Competencies * Bachelor's or Associate's degree in biology, ecology, conservation, or related discipline or comparable combination of education and work experience * Two (2) years' experience in conservation and/or inter-organization collaboration * Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills * Knowledge of monarch biology and plant ecology in Arizona (or willingness to learn quickly) * Strong written and verbal communication skills to reach a wide variety of audiences * Strong attention to detail and ability to manage and prioritize tasks * Ability to use Google Sites, Google Docs, Google Sheets, MS Office, and virtual video conference platforms (e.g., Zoom) * Valid Arizona driver's license is required * Ability to travel within the state; occasional air travel required * Ability to work outside in adverse (or pleasant) conditions * Ability to work off-hours with occasional evenings and/or weekends Equipment Used Typical office equipment. Some horticultural and educational tools may be used for events. Internal Communication Regular communication with Garden employees. External Communication Regular communication with general public, scientists, agency representatives, and advocates. Working Conditions The position is located at Desert Botanical Garden. Location may be negotiable within the state of Arizona. Physical demands include those associated with a normal office environment. Outreach events may include habitat plantings, field trips, tabling events, or presentations. Some of these may be outdoors and require moderate activity or topography. Travel will be needed within the state of Arizona for events, occasional meetings, presentations and workshops. Travel will be needed within the US for meetings and conferences 2-4 times per year.
