Position Summary

The Clinical Nurse Educator - Oncology plays a vital role in advancing the professional practice of nursing and ensuring high-quality, cost-effective patient care. This advanced practice nursing position is responsible for the design, implementation, and evaluation of oncology-focused educational programs that support orientation, onboarding, competency development, and ongoing staff education.

Drawing on expert clinical knowledge, evidence-based practice, and a passion for professional development, the Clinical Nurse Educator serves as a change agent, role model, and leader-guiding nurses in delivering exceptional care to oncology patients. This role fosters an environment of continuous learning and collaboration, ensuring nurses are empowered with the skills, confidence, and knowledge to provide safe and effective patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates unit- and department-based nursing education programs.
  • Facilitates onboarding and orientation for new nursing staff to promote successful integration into oncology care teams.
  • Serves as a clinical expert and mentor, guiding nurses in oncology-specific best practices, protocols, and care standards.
  • Promotes evidence-based practice by interpreting and applying nursing research and national guidelines.
  • Partners with nursing leadership and interprofessional teams to drive quality outcomes and enhance patient safety.
  • Evaluates educational outcomes and ensures alignment with organizational goals and regulatory standards.
  • Contributes to continuous quality improvement initiatives across oncology services.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Nursing or Education required (candidates actively enrolled in a Master's program will be considered).
  • Current RN license in the District of Columbia or eligibility for endorsement.
  • Specialty certification (Oncology Nursing, CNS, and/or Nursing Education) preferred; required within 1 year of hire.
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in an acute care setting, oncology preferred.
  • Prior experience in nursing education, staff development, or clinical teaching strongly preferred.
