Acara Solutions is seeking a Lead FPGA/Electronics Design Engineer to join our client on a Full Time Direct Hire opportunity located in Billerica MA
Job Summary
As a member of the Electrical and FPGA Development team, this role is responsible for designing, testing, and integrating complex electronic systems for next-generation thermal imaging products. Primary responsibilities include leading projects, developing design concepts, performing schematic capture, identifying critical PCB components, and supporting product transfer to production.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Derive requirements for electronic design tasks from system specifications and customer input.
- Perform hardware/software system design trade-offs.
- Design digital electronics, including FPGAs, digital video systems, microprocessors, and DAC/ADC circuits.
- Create FPGA designs from block diagrams to HDL coding (Verilog/VHDL).
- Collaborate with system, software, mechanical, and PCB layout engineers to refine requirements and interfaces.
- Define schedules with project managers and coordinate with manufacturing on test and assembly processes.
- Conduct design verification: develop test plans, run/debug tests, and document results.
- Generate schematics, layouts, BOMs, and design rules; work with PCB designers to deliver circuit card assemblies.
- Prepare and present technical design reviews; participate in peer reviews.
- Specify components and work with vendors/purchasing.
- Maintain design documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
- Support integration, debugging, and production transfer.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
Required Skills / Qualifications:
- US Citizen
- BSEE or related engineering/science degree.
- 10 years minimum experience of directly related electronics design experience
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
- Proficiency with FPGA tools (Xilinx/AMD, Lattice).
- Skilled in schematic/PCB layout tools (Siemens PADS, Altium Designer preferred).
- Proficiency with block diagram tools (Visio, AutoCAD).
- Knowledge of electronic sensors, controls, and system interfaces/protocols (I2C, CAN, RS232/422, Aurora, AXI).
- Experience managing outside design houses.
- Cable design experience.
- Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes and lab equipment.
