What to Expect

As a Reliability Test Engineer focusing on mechanical and thermal systems, you will play a key role in designing reliability into Tesla Energy's next-generation Industrial, Residential and Charging products.This position plays a crucial role in the product reliability lifecycle from concept to design, developmenttesting, analysis, manufacturing and field operation to optimize product design for best-in-class lifetime customerexperience. You will uncover design and process failures through executing physical tests and developing automated test equipment to gather and analyze performance and reliability test data.

What You'll Do
  • Lead test engineering activities for mechanical and thermal systems including: solar products, environmental chambers, enclosures, busbars/conductors and thermal actuators (pumps, radiators, manifolds, etc).
  • Lead engineering activities for inspection of spot and mig welds
  • Design and execution of product reliability testing including hands-on testing with real hardware
  • Design, build and implement next-gen hardware and software test systems to facilitate robust performance characterization and accelerated life testing
  • Determine validation architecture and strategies that optimize for product reliability and DFMEA-based risk mitigations while optimizing test team resources and program test schedules
  • Conduct performance and failure analysis with data you acquired, clearly communicate test results, and collaborate cross-functionally with design and reliability engineers
  • Train technicians/engineers to operate and troubleshoot test equipment
  • Comply with safety policies and regulations

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience in hardware design validation, test instrumentation and data acquisition systems
  • Experience designing and fabricating custom test platforms and fixtures to capture real-world product applications
  • Knowledge of general programming in scripting languages for test automation and data analysis / post-processing
  • Experience utilizing basic test equipment including environmental chambers, chillers and power supplies
  • Experience working safely with high voltage equipment (up to 1kV)
  • Experience using basic hand and power tools
  • Experience using CAD software for custom test fixture design
  • Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills

    Expected Compensation
    • Reliability Engineer - $93,600 - $140,400/annual salary
    • Sr Reliability Engineer - $115,200 - $172,800/annual salary
    + cash and stock awards + benefits for all levels

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
