What to Expect
Tesla is looking for experienced Mechanical Engineer to develop production equipment and processes for dry electrode manufacturing lines. You will work closely with Product Engineering, Process, Quality, and Production teams to take 4680 cell electrode equipment from initial proof of concept through pilot scale development and into full production line implementation. The battery cell is a critical component in Tesla vehicles and storage systems, and in this role, you will have opportunity to drive manufacturing costs down while maintaining industry leading product quality.
What You'll Do
- Develop high precision calendaring equipment for battery manufacturing lines
- Write equipment technical specifications and closely collaborate with external OEMs to develop custom equipment
- Perform stress calculations and run FEA models predicting part/assembly performance under application loads
- Collaborate with process and product design teams on in-house development of novel processes and equipment to make those processes viable in mass production
- Implement and validate manufacturing equipment in high-speed production lines
- Prepare equipment documentation packages including 3D models, fabrication drawings, BOM, PFMEA, and Risk Assessments
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of engineering experience in an industrial setting
- Experience designing automated manufacturing equipment and high precision tooling in 3D (SolidWorks preferred)
- Experience with multiple new equipment installations in production facilities
- Project management experience, preferably with new production line launches
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
- Experience with high power rolling applications in paper, rubber, or steel industries is desired
- Experience working with hydraulic positioners is desired
- Experience with optimizing mechanical components to control elastic deformations on micron length scale is desired

Expected Compensation
$92,720 - $206,520/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
