The Honors College (HC) and its programs are part of the Division of Academic Affairs. The Honors College provides outstanding undergraduate students with an enhanced and supportive intellectual and social environment that acculturates them to the life of the mind. HC programs help these outstanding students to become critical, independent thinkers who are active in the design and pursuit of their own education and prepared to lead successful and fulfilling professional, civic and personal lives.
To this end, the HC offers numerous opportunities incorporating service learning, leadership development, study abroad, and undergraduate research. These opportunities encourage students to travel to state and national honor conventions to present papers or make presentations, an exclusive living/learning community, seminar-style classes with limited enrollment, and access to other curricular and co-curricular experiences.

Working alongside the Honors College, the Truist Leadership Center ( TLC) is dedicated to embedding leadership into every discipline at East Carolina University ( ECU), with the ultimate goal of graduating life-long leaders who view the University as a catalyst for their leadership journey. The center's mission is driven by a commitment to enhancing student success, funding leadership development across the university, and connecting leadership efforts to improve public service. The center aims to foster a culture of collaboration across campus and promote the sharing of best leadership practices. Additionally, the center strives to create meaningful incentives that encourage students to actively engage in leadership experiences.
Job Duties
The Program Director for the ECU Truist Leadership Center will work closely with the Executive Director and manage day to day operations for the Truist Leadership Center. The Program Director will oversee and coordinate programming, operations, and community engagement, and ensure that these activities remain aligned with the mission of the Center to enhance student leadership growth and success. This role will facilitate Truist Leadership Center collaborative meetings, marketing initiatives, and coordinate the application process for potential new programs. The Program Director will also be responsible for developing evaluation methods, an annual application process, fund distribution cycle, and a bi-annual reporting structure.
The Program Director (PD) for the ECU Truist Leadership Center will perform the following duties:

  • Work closely with Executive Director to ensure program efforts and outcomes align with the shared vision for the mission and work of the Truist Leadership Center.
  • Work with Executive Director to establish short- and long-term objectives for the Center, ensuring a focus on sustainable growth and impact.
  • Support communication and coordination with the ECU TLC Collaborative and the TLC Board of Directors.
  • Coordinate logistics for an evaluation model that will formatively inform ongoing work for the Center and provide ongoing summaries of the impact of the Center overall and use the data to inform program improvements and report outcomes.
  • Coordinate logistics for administering the TLC Program funds as approved by the TLC Board of Directors.
  • Coordinate the application process for potential new leadership-focused programs and projects.
  • Serve as the point person for Project Directors in relation to ongoing operations of the TLC.
  • Coordinate the Application process for ECU Truist Leadership Center grants and guide prospective grantees through the application process, with the support of the Executive Director, as needed.
  • Coordinate the distribution of annual budgets.
  • Collect evaluation information and impact reports from grantees.
  • Collaborate with Executive Director to implement strategic steps to grow the TLC's importance, visibility, and impact.
  • Oversee marketing and promotion of the Truist Leadership Center (to include website management).
  • Maintain awareness of best practices and emerging trends in leadership education, integrating relevant insights into program offerings.

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Must be a current full-time faculty at East Carolina University to be eligible for this secondary faculty administrative opportunity.
  • Master's degree from an appropriately accredited institution.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

  • Doctorate degree with Experience in Higher Education and Academic Affairs.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, with an ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience in program management, budgeting, strategic planning, strategic communications, and community engagement.
  • Demonstrated leadership development.
  • Demonstrated commitment and management skills to provide leadership for day-to-day operations of the Center.
  • Record of consistent follow-through with mission-aligned goal-directed actions.
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across various communities.
