Howmet Aerospace is currently looking for an FPI Reader (Level II) to join our Industrial Gas Turbine (IGT) group in Hampton, Virginia.

New Hire Starting Rate: $34.11 p/hr.; After 6 months: $37.90 p/hr.

This position will receive an hourly "shift premium" of $1.00 p/hr. while assigned to an off shift.

Job Summary: The FPI Reader (Level II) will ensure quality castings are provided to the customer per customer requirements and specifications, by inspecting equipment and castings per technical drawings, marking documents, and initiating required forms for repair.

Essential Functions & Job Responsibilities:



  • Calibrate FPI test panel (daily)
  • Performs FPI penetrant separation and precipitation visual check test
  • Performs FPI audits and self-auditing system for Level III
  • Create a refractometer calibration conversion chart
  • Maintains annual test panel calibration log
  • Performs post emulsifiable penetrate system removability test
  • Maintains record logs on department chemicals
  • Checks ultraviolet intensity reading and ambient light
  • Checks test panel and cleaning solvent
  • Checks FPI penetrate sensitivity test and sample
  • Performs monthly penetrate degradation check
  • Performs FPI processor and inspector audits
  • Process and inspect castings for defects
  • Print lot trace cards when necessary
  • Move castings to their designated area


Skills and Abilities:



  • Internal certification with rectification every three years is required
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume and to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:



  • An application must include a resume and at least two professional references for review and consideration.
  • This position requires a minimum of high school diploma or GED certificate.
  • This position requires FPI Level I certification and experience and/or training as a FPI Level II.
  • Availability for all shifts (including 2nd shift, 3rd shift, and weekend shift) is necessary. The ability to work overtime and weekends is required as schedules may vary based on operational needs; flexibility is essential.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
