The Registered Professional Nurse position is responsible for delivering quality nursing care to all clients. The Registered Nurse provides an initial health assessment of youth entering the facility including but not limited to health history, physical exams, and laboratory tests and provides treatment of emergency and/or serious acute health conditions.


Description
Job Responsibilities

  • Initiates and arranges physical exams for clients within 72 hours of admission, schedules laboratory visits, and tests as ordered and assesses and provides treatment for basic first aid and/or serious acute health conditions
  • Conduct assessments, intake assessments, general first aid, triage activities, and including HIV risk assessments as needed.
  • Performs routine screening for substance abuse, developmental health, mental health, and physical body checks for abuse.
  • Participates in medication related functions, daily logging, distributing and administering of medications and ensures refills and supplies of medication are completed on a weekly basis at minimum.
  • Follows up after medical appointments, community provider visits, urgent/emergency care or hospitalization to ensure continue care is received for each medication that is prescribed to every youth.
  • Ensures receiving consent to administer medication.
  • Maintaining supplies and equipment in accordance with established policy and procedure.
  • Manages and performs routine health education training.
  • Certify and train staff on medication administration and ensure staff are made aware of youth medical issues.
  • Practices proper infection control and protocols.
  • Ensures compliance with state and agency law and regulations.
  • Performs ongoing assessment and maintenance of nutritional needs for youths in the facility.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively one on one with individual youth as well as their family unity.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrates organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
  • Demonstrates computer literacy skills including MS Office Suite and other database programs.
  • Handles confidential and sensitive information with discretion and demonstrates knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment in a fast-paced culture; must be able to adapt to changing environment.
  • Ability to interact with emotionally and psychologically challenged individuals.



Job Requirements:

  • Minimum Associates Degree in Nursing is required.
  • Current New York State Registered Nurse license and CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience is required with at-risk youth/adolescent is strongly preferred.
  • Successful completion of on-the-job training for Certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention(TCI) strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule with variable hours including day, evening, weekend, holiday and subject to call hours.
  • Must have a current and valid driver's license with acceptable driving history to the Agency. Travel is required.
  • Ability to work with an economically and culturally diverse population.



Working Conditions and Environmental Factors: Work environmental characteristics described here are representative of those the employee will experience on the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is working in a non-secure detention facility and may be exposed to items such as but not limited to office and detention facility, blood borne pathogens, disagreeable orders high noise level, emotional and psychologically challenged individuals.

Salary & Schedule



  • Up to $82,000 annually, commensurate on experience.
  • Monday - Friday from 8am-4pm, flexible schedule available.
  • Early evening hours may be occasionally required.
  • NO on call hours!
