Summary
APS is seeking a results-driven leader to oversee vegetation and resource management programs that support grid reliability, environmental stewardship, and public safety. This role manages transmission and distribution corridor maintenance, substation vegetation control, and facility landscape upkeep, while ensuring compliance with federal regulations and internal standards.
What you will do:
- Direct vegetation management programs to maintain circuit reliability and customer satisfaction.
- Administer Facility Landscape Maintenance
- Lead wildlife protection and habitat enhancement initiatives.
- Supervise APS crews and contractors, providing technical guidance and leadership.
- Ensure compliance with environmental laws and APS training requirements.
- Analyze data to develop maintenance schedules and coordinate emergency restoration.
- Collaborate with internal teams, IBEW, government agencies, and community groups.
- Prepare contract specifications, field manuals, and educational materials.
What you can expect - Environmental & Travel :
- Work may occur outside normal hours and in adverse weather conditions.
- Exposure to hazardous terrain, equipment, and wildlife is possible.
- Frequent travel across APS's service territory (approximately 25%), including overnight stays and occasional evening/weekend duties.
Minimum Requirements
- BS in forestry, arboriculture, horticulture, or related fieldplus two-year's experience in utility arboriculture or related experience typically obtained in areas of transmission and/or distribution.
- In lieu of a degree, at least six (6) years combined education and experience in forestry, arboriculture, horticulture, or a related field typically obtained in areas of transmission and/or distribution.
- Must possess and maintain ISA Certified Arborist and Utility Specialist certifications and Restricted-Use Pesticide certification in categories III, VII, weed, right-of-way, and wood preservative or obtain such certifications within one year of employment.
Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:
- Proficient knowledge of APS easements, accounting, procurement, and budgeting systems, internal computer programs and MS software packages.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable ANSI and OSHA standards, USDA Forest Service and other federal agency regulations, easement law, contract law, specification design, APS Accident Prevention Manual, IBEW labor agreements, and company policies and procedures.
- Working knowledge of electric transmission and distribution theory, design of electric systems/facilities and hardware components.
- Particular emphasis on safety practices associated with working close to energized conductors and within substations.
- Ability to interpret detailed prints, circuit maps and diagrams and operate GPS unit.
- Good written, oral expression and comprehension skills.
- Strong problem identification/ resolution, communication, negotiation, interpersonal, and customer relation skills and the ability to visualize end results of several multi-faceted functions involving integrated tasks.
