The main campus is located in the historic village of Kingston, and the Bay Campus is located in Narragansett. Both campuses are near major beaches in a beautiful coastal community. URI is just 30 minutes from Providence, RI and within easy reach of Newport, Boston, and New York City. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ POSITION SUMMARY: Collaboratively coordinate and deliver university accessibility services and supports for students with disabilities. Duties and Responsibilities: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Establish and supervise delivery and database documentation of essential services to students with disabilities, including reasonable accommodations to support equal opportunity in URI academic and co-curricular programs and services. Assess, verify and facilitate student requests for services via remote and in person meetings. Conduct learning support services for students with mental health disabilities, learning disabilities, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders, autism spectrum disorders and other documented conditions. Hire, train, and supervise student employees as needed. Advise individual students and student groups concerning disability, diversity, civil rights, services, and self-advocacy. Assist and advise the Assistant Dean/Director in guiding University departments regarding accessibility options in courses, programs, and services. Assist and advise University departments in providing services to students with disabilities. Appropriately refer faculty and staff regarding disability-related options. Provide information regarding postsecondary transition for local transition collaboratives, at transition forums and events. Provide guidance to prospective transitioning students and their families. Participate in Disability, Access, and Inclusion and Dean of Students Office Social Justice and Inclusion initiatives. In collaboration with Housing and Residential Life, manage communication with students seeking accommodations within the housing environment to facilitate the delivery of consistent and accurate information. Liaise with and advise IT Teaching and Learning Services to ensure online accessibility of Brightspace or other online course system, develop training modules and assessment strategies for faculty, and support students in their ability to access online courses. Oversee the Annual Disability, Access, and Inclusion response for URI Commencement, i.e. develop and maintain an accommodation registration system for Commencement visitors, coordinate staffing and other supports to ensure accessible commencement sites for the weekend of events, coordinate distribution of adaptive equipment as necessary. Collaborate with Transportation & Parking Services to deliver mobility support systems such as disability transportation and parking systems; including liaison with Enrollment Services to ensure accessibility of classrooms as needed. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Advise Disability, Access, and Inclusion personnel in current best practices. Represent the office on committees and at University events. Perform additional duties as required. LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT: Personal computers, printers and word processing, database management and spreadsheet software; Adaptive equipment and software.
