Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (
CSD) offers a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. As one of the campuses of the University of North Carolina (
UNC) system, North Carolina Central University is located in Durham near Research Triangle Park. The Department of Communication Science and Disorders(
CSD) is a full-time, campus-based graduate program and features a curriculum that integrates research, evidence-based clinical experiences, and a focus on serving populations from varied backgrounds. The Master of Science degree program in speech-language pathology is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (
CAA) in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. The
NCCU Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic provides speech, language, and hearing evaluations and treatment services for clients across the lifespan. |
Primary Purpose of Position |
The primary purpose of this position is to provide clinical experiences that foster and provide the graduate students' necessary knowledge, skills, and clinical hours required to meet
ASHA certification and North Carolina licensure standards in Speech-Language Pathology. This position will facilitate alignment with and maintain accreditation by the Council for Academic Accreditation (
CAA) in Audiology and Speech-Pathology. Duties of the position include but are not limited to the coordination community-based practicum placements , providing clinical training and supervision to graduate students in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. |
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
Candidates with expertise in clinical supervision and clinic management will receive preferential consideration. Candidates must work collaboratively with students and other stakeholders using an interprofessional framework and demonstrate an awareness of current trends in the profession and in clinical education. Knowledge of
CAA accreditation and American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (
ASHA) certification standards is necessary.
A senior candidate with experience in clinical education, supervision, and administration will additionally be considered for the position of Clinical Assistant Director, with responsibilities for coordinating and administering external practicum placements for students. |

The successful applicant will possess amaster's degree or clinical doctorate in Speech-Language Pathology, Certificate of Clinical Competence in
SLP, and NC state licensure (or eligibility). Applicants musthave at least three years of clinical experience as a certified
SLP. Experiencesupervising graduate students in clinical placements is preferred. |
