Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

  • Interpret and apply U.S. Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) requirements to company import/export activities, including: CFR 15 (EAR), CFR 22 (ITAR), CFR 19 (U.S. Customs Duties).
  • Ensure compliance with the U.S. Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program.
  • Develop, document, and maintain internal business processes for import/export compliance.
  • Provide training, guidance, and technical expertise to internal stakeholders on trade compliance requirements.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of customs brokers regarding proper entry of products and services.
  • Act as company liaison with U.S. Customs and other government agencies.
  • Classify goods, services, and technology under Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and applicable Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCNs).
  • Apply for and administer licenses required for exports.
  • Audit and review import/export documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Report and disclose findings to applicable stakeholders, including management, legal counsel, and regulatory agencies.
  • Proactively identify, correct, and mitigate risks related to trade compliance errors.
  • Communicate effectively across all levels of management and external organizations.
  • Engage with the business to ensure they understand how Trade regulations impact business decisions.
  • Assist the business in developing solutions to ensure compliance and business success.
  • Initiate and support standardization of Trade Compliance activities where appropriate.
  • Support the design, testing, and implementation of common IT-solutions to manage Trade Compliance (e.g., Global Trade Management Software).
  • Define, develop, and implement import and export control processes and solutions.
  • Administer Export License applications as required.
  • Liaise with Government Agencies as required to support export license processing and throughput.
  • Analyze new products and technologies to identify future Trade Compliance requirements or solutions.
  • Assist Supply Chain Management and the programs in drafting and communicating Trade Compliance requirements to Spirit customers, suppliers, partners, and affiliates; applying for appropriate import and export approvals as required.
  • Support Spirit programs and functions with their Trade Compliance requirements, developing solutions that ensure compliance while supporting successful business outcomes.
  • Ensure Spirit products have all appropriate information for importing/exporting (e.g., Harmonized Tariff Classifications, Export Control Numbers, Country of Origin, etc.)
  • Develop and execute Trade compliance training programs for Spirit personnel involved in the import and export of goods and/or the transfer of technical data.
  • Conduct regular audits of Trade Compliance systems and processes to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Assist in the maintenance of Trade Compliance metrics.
  • Assist in the administration of Spirit's duty drawback program.
  • Assist in the determination of import and export classifications, valuations, and Country of Origin.
  • Assist in the administrating of Duty Avoidance/Deferral programs.
  • Monitor import and export activity using ACE and Global Trade Management Software and take appropriate corrective actions when necessary.
  • Manage special projects as assigned.
  • Maintain the Spirit CTPAT program and all elements associated.
  • Update the Security Profile
  • Coordinate supplier risk assessments (through questionnaires and foreign travel)
  • Evaluation of import activity
  • Act as liaison to Customs and Border Protection assigned Supply Chain Security Specialist
  • Manage the Revalidation activities (foreign and domestic)
  • Engage with suppliers that show supply chain security deficiencies
  • Engage cross-functionally with subject-matter-experts inside the business
  • Other relevant tasks and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Work in a Trade Compliance-related role for a period of at least 5 years preferred (e.g., Trade Compliance, Supply Chain Management or Logistics)
  • Knowledge of International Trade Regulations
  • Bachelor's degree in business or industry related field
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. import/export laws and regulations (EAR, ITAR, CFR).
  • Experience applying HTS and Export Classifications to goods, technology, and services.
  • Familiarity with C-TPAT compliance requirements.
  • Trade Compliance industry specific training, e.g., AEO, ITAR, BIS, Export / Import Controls, etc.
  • Previous experience in Project management /Lean Six Sigma a plus.
  • Previous experience working with Government agencies.
  • Ability to translate legislation into local policies and procedures.
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Process improvement and development skills.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Verbally and in writing
  • Able to interface comfortably with all levels, internally and externally and across all programs and functions.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of effective collaboration, transparency, and inspiration.
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio)
  • Experience in auditing processes.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in import/export compliance, international trade, or customs brokerage.
  • Working knowledge of licensing procedures for controlled goods and technology.
  • Background in aerospace, defense, or manufacturing industry a plus.
