Position description

The UCLA Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) was established in August 2023 to support UCLA's educational mission to engage a university-wide community of scholars composed of educators and the diverse learners they serve in a collaborative process to discover and advance knowledge and practice across the disciplines both in and beyond the classroom. The TLC is a key driver of innovation and excellence in teaching across UCLA's broad academic landscape, a campus resource for programming in support of inclusive and evidence-based teaching practices, and a champion of pedagogical research and the scholarship of teaching and learning.

The TLC is recruiting a Director of Instructor Engagement and Educational Development (IEED), who reports to the Executive Director of the Teaching and Learning Center and serves as a key leader in supporting instructors of record, including Senate faculty, Lecturers, Academic Administrators, and Graduate Student Instructors. The Director leads the design, implementation, and assessment of professional learning opportunities that promote student-centered, inclusive, and effective instructional practices. This role oversees educational development programs, consultation services, and digital resources that equip instructors to engage diverse learners, foster equitable student outcomes, and adapt to evolving modes of teaching and learning.

The Director manages a portfolio of campus-wide teaching events, professional learning programs, and educational and faculty development initiatives, including the TLC's teaching symposia, academies, and communities of practice. In addition, the Director collaborates with campus partners to launch and sustain new initiatives that encourage reflective practice, purposeful instructional innovation, and the use of enabling technologies to support effective pedagogy. As a core member of the TLC leadership team, the Director supervises professional and student staff, oversees unit operations and assessment, contributes to strategic planning, and represents the TLC at UCLA, UC systemwide, and national levels.

Core responsibilities include but are not limited to leading the design and facilitation of educational development programs and workshops; managing teaching consultation services to support adoption of evidence-based practices; overseeing strategic assessment and continuous improvement of programs; building and sustaining instructor communities of practice; and advancing scholarly teaching and pedagogical research.
