SUMMARY

Responsible for working with business units and IT in defining and managing the implementation of applications and initiatives, as well as creating new and innovative ways to improve workflow, process efficiencies, internal reporting capabilities, and the documentation of business processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

IT Business Analysis: Analyzes business needs and develops functional specifications and system design specifications for internal business units. Analyzes complex business needs and recommends technical solutions. Develops business requirements, functional specifications, wireframes, markups, and planning documents for IT Development. Ensures the consistency and maintainability of existing applications by creating, maintaining, and enforcing standards/procedures for implementing technical solutions. Reviews all designs and business unit test plans where applicable. Participates in all hardware, software and programming evaluations where applicable. Reviews and selects an appropriate set of tools to accomplish all necessary tasks based on submitted IT project requests.

IT Project Management: Plans, develops, organizes, evaluates and reports on the IT Development unit's function and performance. Coordinates operations in executing production tasks according to a documented schedule that meets or exceeds business needs. Presentations at appropriate management meetings are required and include addressing Return on Investment (ROI) of ongoing initiatives as well as future plans to be implemented. Provides accurate reporting at month-end, quarter-end and year-end business meetings including reviewing objectives, report progress, and indentify needs or areas for improvement with action plans for correction. Coordinates and manages business relationships with key internal partners and significant external partners and vendors. Works with business units to specify IT priorities. Reviews and selects an appropriate set of tools to accomplish all necessary tasks.

Quality Assurance and Usability Testing: Works with IT leadership and business team leaders to ensure efficient workflow in the use of the applications. Develops solutions to increase efficiency, accuracy and accessibility of data. Works as part of a project team for system upgrades, the development of new functionality and web site implementation. Assists in testing system functionality. Prepares and delivers documentation and training on related systems. Responsible for reviewing and testing the design of the user interface and overall user experience for applications. Works with marketing, operations and development staff on style and approach for all projects. Oversees production of design elements, comps, templates and finished solutions. Participates in efforts to improve quality of the application user's experience as required.

Leadership and General Management: Presentations at appropriate meetings to include ongoing initiatives as well as future plans to be implemented, accurate reporting, reviewing objectives, reviewing progress, identifying needs or areas for improvement and action plans for correction. Establishes or oversees the development, maintenance and monitoring of user manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Critical Success Indicators (CSIs). Works collaboratively with fellow senior staff to advance the values and mission of Alliant by participating in and attending appropriate management and administration meetings; and provides strategic, policy and operational leadership.

Special Projects: Works collaboratively with fellow staff to advance the values and mission of Alliant by serving on relevant internal and external committees; Assists with special projects/assignments as requested by members of management.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems or related field or experience

Two (2) or more years IT Business Analyst experience

Five (5) or more years relevant experience required, preferably for a company in the insurance industry or software company with insurance or marketing-related experience

Two (2) or more years project management experience

Experience working within an Agile framework

SKILLS

Working knowledge of insurance services, industries, and product lines.

Knowledge of the general industry procedures, practices and terminology including data processing system and application design methods, techniques and standards.

Working knowledge of database definition and structure as well as data architecture and integration.

Knowledge of general office forms, processes and procedures.

Knowledge of program and project management including outcomes, quality assurance, and satisfaction measurement and interpretation.

Knowledge of accounting and budgeting principles and procedures.

Knowledge of supervisory techniques to accomplish instruction, motivation and training of personnel.

Skill to supervise, motivate and train.

Skill in negotiating and problem solving to resolve internal and external conflicts.

Skill in developing effective communication materials.

Skill in the use of office equipment including computer, fax, printer, telephone system, etc.

Skill in the use of time management, organizational leadership and supervisory skills.

Skill in maintaining effective working relationships with other management members, employees and the general public.

Proficient computer skills (Microsoft/Word, Excel and PowerPoint software preferred).

Ability to understand and articulate business needs to those with or without an IT background.

Ability to analyze and accurately interpret budgets, financial reports and statistical data.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in a constructive manner.

Ability to approach and communicate with a wide range of personalities in a professional and courteous manner.

Ability to be patient under frustrating circumstances and demonstrate controlled emotional affect in difficult situations.

Ability to engage in effective interpersonal interaction, verbal communication and written communication.

Ability to maintain a high level of organization and attention to detail while remaining flexible and responsive when faced with multiple urgent requests.

Ability to read, write and communicate English effectively.

Ability to work independently, exercise independent judgment, make and execute decisions

Ability to demonstrate organizational leadership qualities and develop and foster trusting relationships.

Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule to include evening and weekend hours as needed.

Ability to maintain all company policies, including all confidentiality and safety policies.

Ability to work with others in similar roles, including IT Project Managers and business product owners.

Ability to work within a team setting to ensure data, reporting, and integration needs are appropriately addressed.

Strong verbal and written proficiencies of the English language is required and bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred.
