Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned) Responsible for performing electrical load flow studies associated with Calpine's use of the electric transmission system. The Specialist, Transmission Analysis conducts analysis and research on the topology, operation of the transmission grid, and procedures for facilitating electric transmission transactions within various defined market areas. Responsible for providing analysis to inform Calpine's view of locational market pricing and transmission congestion basis hedging across all ISO/RTOs in which Calpine operates. Performs analysis of electric transmission grid in support of trading activities to include recommendations of alternative paths which will optimize profits and ensure delivery. Administers integrated transmission agreements. Negotiates and administers interconnections, interchange agreements, and transmission access requests. Prepares economic evaluations and justifications. Duties include analysis and dissemination of information concerning transmission issues including sitting, interconnections, transmission service requests, development activities, plan operation, strategic studies, trading activities using FTR/CRR/TCC to hedge transmission congestion basis, etc.; provides recommendations on transmission issues and their impact on overall power operations. Manages some interactions with transmission providers and serves as a transmission operations liaison on all transmission issues. Primarily responsible for quantitative analysis include developing models, pricing exotic derivatives, and designing and performing quantitative studies of historical and forecasted prices, loads, and marginal system costs for energy commodities for pricing decisions and risk management using advanced computing and programming skills.
