We're looking for a Textile Materials
Engineer
to ensure advanced materials
meet the rigorous demands of human spaceflight. As part of ILC Dover, an Ingersoll Rand Business, you'll join the team behind the only proven and flown spacesuits for NASA; a legacy of innovation that has protected astronauts for generations.

As a Textile Materials
Engineer
, you'll be at the forefront, developing and qualifying advanced textile
-based materials
that make human spaceflight
possible. This is not a typical engineering
role. It's high-stakes and hands-on, where every decision matters. You'll identify, test, and qualify technical fabrics and composite materials
for spaceflight
hardware, collaborating directly with textile
manufacturers to ensure every material meets mission-critical performance demands. Your work will also involve developing and maintaining engineering
documentation aligned with NASA's strict Materials
& Processes standards. Beyond documentation, this role puts you on the production floor, solving real-time materials
challenges during suit fabrication, and your expertise will help shape the integrity of suits destined for orbit and beyond. You'll also play a key role in configuration
management and change control through MasterControl
, ensuring precision at every stage.

Responsibilities:

• Employ established science and engineering
  principles in the research, design and development of materials
  and processes for space flight hardware.
  

  
  

• Maintain a detailed knowledge and understanding of softgood materials,
  their testing, and manufacturing processes, specifically for space flight applications.
  

  
  

• Generate and maintain engineering
  and material control documents to ensure compliance with space flight hardware requirements including material drawings, Material Identification and Usage Lists, flight or material waivers
  (including Material Usage Agreements and Material Review Board waivers
  ), and other program documentation related to material/product definition and control.
  

  
  

• Identify, evaluate, and define material requirements and generate specifications.
  

  
  

• Perform materials
  testing/analysis and generate testing/analysis documentation.
  

  
  

• Effectively present materials
  engineering
  information to team members as well as cross-functional partners and external clients/ customers as necessary.
  

  
  

Requirements:

• Bachelor
  of Science Degree in Textile
  Engineering
  , or related field of study; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  

  
  

• 4+ years of experience performing Technical Fabric / Textile
  Engineering
  tasks or similar experience with NASA M&P
  ( materials
  & processes)
  

  
  

• Must work effectively cross-functionally with peers and departmental teams to deliver on time for internal and external customers, perform under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.
  

  
  

• Must have strong proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet software, intermediate CAD
  , and basic 3D modeling
  , along with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  

  
  

• Proven in following work instructions, blueprints, and other technical documents, while always adhering to safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment ( PPE
  ).
  

  
  

• Requires U.S. Citizenship or lawful Permanent Resident due to access to shared databases and systems that support government programs.
