Position Summary The Construction Manager is responsible for overseeing multiple retail construction projects nationally, ensuring completion in accordance with contracts, plans, specifications, and scope of work. This role requires a proven track record of managing complex retail projects from conception through closeout, with the ability to coordinate stakeholders, control budgets, and deliver quality results on schedule. The Construction Manager will be actively involved in budgeting, bidding, contractor management, on-site oversight, and project closeout documentation. Travel 50% - 75% required. This role is remote, preferably located near a major airport with preference for those located in DFW/Chicago. Key Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive scopes of work, detailed project budgets, and cost estimates to support accurate financial planning.
- Conduct building surveys and due diligence to identify site-specific conditions and mitigate potential risks.
- Review architectural, engineering, and contract documents to ensure alignment with company standards and lease or developer requirements.
- Lead pre-bid meetings, manage the competitive bidding process, and recommend qualified contractors for award.
- Oversee construction execution through regular site visits, verifying quality, safety, and adherence to schedule and budget.
- Manage change orders, RFIs, and project documentation to maintain contractual compliance and transparency.
- Coordinate with internal departments, including Design, Real Estate, and Operations-to align construction deliverables with business objectives.
- Direct project closeout activities, including punch list completion, warranty handoff, and preparation of final turnover documentation.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred.
- 5-7 years of experience in retail construction (multi-site or national program experience strongly desired).
- Demonstrated success managing both remodel and ground-up projects with budgets ranging from $500K-$5M+.
- Experience working with landlords, municipalities, and multi-discipline consultant teams.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Broad understanding of retail construction including fixtures, MEP systems, and site development.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; exposure to construction management software (Smartsheet, Procore, Bluebeam, etc.) preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to lead contractors and present updates to internal leadership.
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills; capable of managing multiple projects in various phases simultaneously.
- Ability to negotiate, resolve conflicts, and drive projects to successful completion.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Walking and standing on active construction sites.
- Regular travel to project sites. Must hold a valid driver's license and maintain eligibility to rent vehicles for travel to project locations.
- Repetitive movement of hands and fingers, examples: typing or writing.
