We have an opportunity for a Senior Tooling Engineer to join our Moorpark, CA team. You will be responsible for multiple injection mold tooling projects to support plant wide NPD projects. You will manage tooling projects from cradle to grave including new tooling and managing replacement tooling. You will conduct tool mold flow analysis to ensure proper design parameters. You will utilize Lean tools (RCCM, 5-whys, A3, etc.) to improve downtime trends and reduce cost as needed. In addition, you will work with limited supervision indirectly lead others within the tooling department.

You will:

  • Review 3D models of product design and drive design changes for part moldability, improved product performance, decreased cycle times and increased tooling life. Interface with product engineers for design changes.
  • Perform mold flow analysis to aid in design for moldability and to determine optimum gating location, type of gating. (i.e. cold sprue and runners, hot sprue, hot runner system, etc.)
  • Provide specific directions on steel types, mold actions, part layout, gating location(s) and type to get budgetary quotes and timing for new injection molding tools.
  • Prototype tooling
  • Obtain quotes for new tooling, create CER, submit MRO's, issue purchase orders.
  • Replacement tooling CER's
  • Manage projects, monitor tooling build costs, progress to timeline, manage dimensional adjustments and engineering changes.
  • Perform tooling design review to ensure new tools conform to Pentair tooling standards and design criteria presented at mold design kickoff.
  • Review hot runner and unscrewing mold designs for function and capability.
  • Calculate press tonnage, cycle times and piece part pricing.
  • Travel to overseas tooling shops as required for T1 sampling, work with the supplier to optimize the molding process, determine process or tooling changes needed to dimensionally qualify the mold for shipping to Pentair.
  • Prioritize activities and perform project management activities.
  • Coordinates sampling, metrology requests and changes to tooling when it arrives on site.
  • Provide oversight into production tooling repairs.
  • Coordinate with onsite tool room for feasibility.
  • Or outside tool shops as needed. Send change data, obtain quotes, submit CER, MRO, coordinate timing, mold shipments, etc.
  • Manage the tooling lifecycle and replacement of tools
  • Lead and attend meetings related to projects.
  • Liaison between design engineering and manufacturing on new products and product changes.
  • Participate in lean processes in order to improve plant layout, process flow, and labor efficiency while implementing state of the art ergonomic and safety standards.
  • Participate in warranty and cost reduction efforts.
  • Be actively involved in safety, 5S, and housekeeping within the team.
  • Participate in vendor certification.

Key Qualifications:

  • Experience with managing injection molding tooling projects required.
  • Injection molding processing experience required.
  • SolidWorks (or similar design software) experience required.
  • SolidWorks Moldflow experience required.
  • Strong project management skills required.
  • Candidate must be able to effectively communicate with all areas of the business in both verbal and written format.
  • 5-7 years' experience in injection mold processing, tooling, and project management.
  • Candidate must have experience in handling multiple projects and utilizing resources to drive bottom line results.
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus

Compensation:

For this full-time position working at this location, the anticipated annualized base pay range will be from $90500 - $168100 / year. At Pentair, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the pay range. Pentair considers various factors in determining actual compensation for this position at the expected location. Actual compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, work location, and other relevant business or organizational needs. This position may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as an annual incentive bonus.
