PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICER - ARMED

Shift:Monday-Friday, 11:00 pm-7:00 am

Primary Function: Provide safety and security services for the college community including protection of students, staff, college facilities, property and institution.

Responsibilities: (1) Maintain a highly visible presence on campus; (2) Provide an exceptional level of professionalism and customer service; (3) Assist immediate supervisor with dissemination of information to all officers; (4) Give direction and respond clearly to questions from students, staff and visitors; (5) Conduct follow-up investigations and collaborate with Student Affairs staff members to address student conduct concerns; (6) Monitor crime and safety hazards and follow the reporting procedure for same; (7) Prepare incident reports and maintain accurate records; (8) Be familiar with crisis plans, alarms, and computer center systems; (9) Maintain a safe environment for vehicular and pedestrian traffic; (10) Enforce campus vehicle parking regulations, assist with jump starts and vehicle lock-outs; (11) Allow access to campus facilities for authorized individuals; (12) Act as a first responder for campus emergencies, including critical incidents, fire, medical, bomb threats and crises intervention; (13) Maintain institutional stability and reputation by complying with and knowledge of all Federal, State and Local laws as well as college policies and procedures; (14) Receive, transport and deposit college funds; (15) Deliver presentations and training on a wide variety of topics to the campus community upon request; (16) Patrol campus on foot, in a vehicle and on bicycle when necessary.

Organizational Relationships: Responsible to the Chief of Public Safety & Security or his/her designee for the performance of assigned responsibilities.

Performance Standards: Performance in this position is considered satisfactory when: (1) Position responsibilities are consistently executed in accordance with established policies and procedures; (2) Effectively execute the goals of the College, Division and Department; (3) Establish cooperative relationships with other Campus Security personnel and College Community.

Qualifications: (1) Education: High School diploma or equivalent, Pa State Act 235 Certification (Firearms) required. (2) Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: (a) Valid driver's license, (b) Completion and annual renewal CPR/AED certification, (c) Strong organizational, communicative and leadership skills, (d) ability to summarize information and prepare reports, (e) computer literate, (f) ability to lift 25 pounds and climb several flights of stairs; ability to walk and stand for several hours at a time, (g) ability to execute multiple tasks and assignments. (e) Ability to function in a crisis situation. (f) Able to understand and carry out written, e-mailed or verbal instruction. (g) Ability to maintain confidentiality (h) Ability to successfully pass all initial certifications and yearly re-certifications in firearms, Tasers, handcuffing, OC and baton. (i) Ability to successfully pass both a Drug and Psychological Screening. (3) Experience: Minimum two years' security, law enforcement or other related experience and/or training.
