McDowell Center for Children is a 28-bed residential treatment facility located in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Our residential program focuses on adolescent males experiencing mental health, behavioral, and/or substance abuse issues. The newer outpatient program supports both boys and girls ages 12-17. Our well-tenured team is comprised of licensed therapists, psychiatrists, nurses, and counselors who offer 24-hour support for our patients. We provide young men with the skills they need to improve their thinking patterns, make healthier choices, and create new futures with improved outlooks and outcomes.

McDowell Center for Children is currently searching for an amazing person to work as the Director of Nursing, full-time.

Position Summary

The Director of Nursing provides direct care, leadership, direction, and supervision for all nurses. The Director of Nursing is on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for call offs & any other calls from his/her staff.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
  1. Serves as the director, role model, and supervisor for the nursing staff.
  2. Coordinates care giver responsibilities and delegates responsibilities to assure overall quality of care for patients.
  3. Assesses the physical and emotional needs of the high-risk patients and level of milieu acuity.
  4. Implements the nursing group program.
  5. Educates and informs of changes to the nursing group program to the marketing department.
  6. Assists the nursing staff in identifying and/or assigning appropriate staff to run specified groups.
  7. Assures daily nursing tasks are done in a timely manner.
  8. Evaluates, counsels, and disciplines nurses.
  9. Attends and conducts meetings as necessary.
  10. Acts as liaison between the McDowell Center for Children and Families and the Pharmacist.
  11. Acts as Infection Control Coordinator.
  12. Provides and coordinates utilization review functions for medication, history and physicals, immunizations, laboratory and medical appointments.
  13. Conducts or assigns daily orders including special precautions are properly maintained.
  14. Provides assessment of and maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu.
  15. Maintains professional standards of care, performance, and attitude.
  16. Promotes and maintains departmental functioning in a professional manner.
  17. Maintains on going communication with the Director Clinical Services related to milieu status, patient acuity, staffing changes, and other clinical and personnel issues.
  18. Assists in staff orientation, educational needs, and maintaining competent staff.
  19. Reviews intake for medical appropriateness.
  20. Schedules and deploys nurses for all three shifts.
  21. Presents evaluations to staff, with appropriate signatures, within timeframes.
  22. Manages overtime of his/her department.
  23. Completes job specific orientation checklist with new hires within 3 weeks of orientation.

Qualifications

Minimum Skills, Experience, Licensure and Educational Requirements
  1. Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited school required. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited school preferred.
  2. Tennessee RN license or eligible for licensure transfer required.
  3. Minimum of five years experience working in the behavioral health field required.
  4. Two years supervisory experience required.
  5. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication and leadership skills required.
  7. CPR and First Aid certification and crisis intervention training required.
