Moog's Corporate Group is looking for Chief Counsel for Intellectual Property to join our global team!

As Chief Intellectual Property Counsel, you will be responsible for overseeing all intellectual property matters across Moog's global footprint and leading the intellectual property function and department. You will establish and drive the comprehensive, strategic, long-term vision for Moog's global intellectual property portfolio and its commercialization initiatives. This is inclusive of the establishment of comprehensive frameworks for securing and leveraging Moog's sophisticated intellectual property assets in governmental and commercial agreements across all of Moog's operating groups.

We require that you are an experienced attorney with a deep understanding of the aerospace, defense, and industrial landscape, a proven track record of managing complex intellectual property portfolios, negotiating complex commercial and governmental agreements with large end customers, and have the ability to drive strategic intellectual property initiatives that support Moog's business objectives.

You will serve as the primary legal advisor on all intellectual property matters, providing strategic counsel to executives and senior leadership, business units, and engineering teams on a wide range of intellectual property and commercialization issues.

As Chief Intellectual Property Counsel, here is what we would like you to bring to Moog:

  • Over 15 years of experience in intellectual property law, gained either as outside counsel or in-house at a large company in the aerospace and defense industries.

  • Juris doctorate or equivalent degree and bar affiliation, registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

  • A strong leader who is adept at designing and implementing high-performing legal departments, navigating complex global relationships, performing at the executive level and inspiring teams through mentorship and exemplary professional conduct.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

  • Extensive negotiation experience, encompassing complex commercial and governmental transactions, including the handling of intellectual property rights and the resolution of multi-faceted international intellectual property claims.

  • Strong business acumen with the objective to contribute broadly across the business.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance (if required for specific programs/locations).

  • Must live local to Buffalo, NY to work on-site, or be open to relocation.

As Chief Intellectual Property Counsel, you will:

  • Drive the establishment and implementation of a cohesive global intellectual property strategy and robust governance frameworks across the organization, align multi-dimensional priorities and objectives across Moog's diverse operating groups and business units to foster R&D innovation, maximize opportunities, and ensure strong competitive positioning in the marketplace.

  • Partner closely with executive and senior business leaders, company-wide, to architect and deploy comprehensive strategic systems for the identification, evaluation, protection, and commercialization of intellectual property assets.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of intellectual property attorneys, paralegals, and support staff, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Direct the strategic management of Moog's extensive and highly complex worldwide intellectual property assets, covering patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, and all other forms of intellectual and proprietary rights.

  • Develop and manage the strategic budgeting, investment, and all associated financial resources essential to building, sustaining, and defending Moog's global intellectual property portfolio.

  • Manage and direct Moog's worldwide external intellectual property legal counsel network, optimizing these partnerships to ensure efficient and cost-effective intellectual property services.

  • Deliver proactive and effective intellectual property legal guidance to business units, strategically aligned with the company's business goals.

  • Lead and drive the structuring and negotiation of complex technical, licensing, and development agreements, and deliver strategic legal counsel to support business objectives, including the negotiation of government and commercial contracts, technology licenses and transfer agreements, mergers and acquisitions, other business arrangements.

  • Ensure the proactive worldwide protection and robust enforcement of Moog's intellectual property assets, drives resolution of infringement matters, and directs associated intellectual property litigation strategy.

  • Actively represent Moog in key industry associations, legal forums, and working groups focused on intellectual property, and continuously monitor global developments in intellectual property law and industry standards to maintain Moog's competitive edge, support informed decision-making, and ensure legal compliance.

  • Design and oversee the implementation of standardized intellectual property contract templates and clauses and develop comprehensive playbooks and training to equip the legal, contracts, and supply chain functions, along with business teams, to proactively address common intellectual property matters and continuously drive process improvements and efficiencies.

Salary Range Transparency:

Buffalo, NY $260,000.00-$300,000.00 Annually

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, employee stock purchase plan, an open paid time off policy, and many region-specific benefits.
