Job Summary

Supports the Division of Information Technology's Center for Internet Augmented Research and Assessment (CIARA) by supporting the implementation of the network infrastructure and management systems for the AMPATH International Exchange Point as well as other NSF supported grant projects. Supports the day-to-day network engineering of the AMPATH International Exchange Point, to ensure the integrity and security in the delivery of network services to FIU and national and international research and education networks. Installs, provides configuration and management for, and troubleshoots wide-area networks, on both optical and packet layers. Provides assistance and high-level networking technical support for FIU Faculty and Staff, and CIARA participants and vendors. Assists in evaluating and the establishment of network standards.

  • Assists in the design, development and implementation of network infrastructure and management systems for the AMPATH International Exchange Point.
  • Develops network monitoring tools using Bash, Python and Ansible.
  • Assists in implementing inter-domain Routing and Peering policies for both IPv4 and IPv6.
  • Maintains dialogue with end users, IT Administrators, and vendors regarding the proper operation of network services provided by the AMPATH International Exchange Point and CIARA projects.
  • Maintains current knowledge of network services, new technologies and related hardware and software applications, including SDN and OpenFlow.
  • Provides support for the management of network and data management systems for the operations of the AMPATH International Exchange Point and CIARA projects including but not limited to Ethernet and SDN services.
  • Operates monitoring systems for hybrid network services in support of network research, for support of data intensive science, and for at-scale deployment of network prototyping efforts using knowledge of programming languages such as Shell and Python.
  • Supports the development and direction of programs for CIARA.
  • Supports troubleshooting activities of network infrastructure problems in a multi-vendor WAN submarine system network environment.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a technology related field; OR four (4) years of related information technology experience; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience on a year for year basis.



Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with network devices such as Juniper or Extreme/Brocade.
  • Experience with Ansible.
  • Experience writing network and Linux automation routines.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols, such as OSPF and BGP.
  • Basic knowledge of Python development for scripting.
  • Basic knowledge of SNMP, sFlow, and NetFlow.
  • Knowledge of SDN protocols and methodologies.
