University Advancement engages stakeholders in meaningful interactions that foster pride, advocacy and philanthropic support for the Elizabeth City State University ( ECSU). The division is built on a fully integrated model of support for the university that brings together development, alumni relations and advancement services. In partnership with the ECSU Foundation and ECSU's Direct Support Organizations (i.e. ECSU Alumni Association, ECSU Viking Varsity Club, ECSU Retirees Association,etc.), University Advancement operates in a philanthropic environment that is able to respond to unique opportunities to support the University's progress toward its aspirations. The division works to advance the goal of making Elizabeth City State University recognized as North Carolina's leading regional university as measured by its impact on the lives of people of northeastern North Carolina.
Description of Work
Reporting directly to the Chancellor the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement serves as chief development officer with responsibility for the day-to-day management of the University's advancement function. The position serves as a member of the executive cabinet, is responsible for planning and implementing, in consonance with the University's mission, a comprehensive program for private, corporate, and supplemental government support as well as providing leadership for significant giving through capital campaigns. The position also develops and implements marketing plans and strategies for the university and serves as Executive Director to the Elizabeth City State University Foundation.
Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position
Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of good sound administrative practices.

Provide evidence of experience building upon an existing advancement program, utilizing established metrics and performance standards, resulting in a transformative increase in philanthropic revenue for an organization. Success in increasing the effectiveness of an advancement program and its staff through established objectives and performance standards.

Provide evidence of a proven track record of success in personally cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding significant major gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations in a metrics-driven culture. A high level of comfort and effectiveness working with high net worth individuals and corporate business leaders.

Possess a keen eye for operational efficiency and optimal resource allocation; possess expertise and evidence in strategic planning and budget preparation.

Possess the willingness and ability to travel on behalf of ECSU and to participate regularly in campus and community events, including weekend and evening engagements.

Possess the skills to plan, organize, administer, and execute viable development and fundraising programs and activities and excellent oral and written communication

Demonstrate strong personal integrity and work ethic coupled with an optimistic, warm and outgoing personality and a sense of humor; open-minded and welcoming of input and feedback.
Minimum Training and Experience

Possess a Master's degree (Doctorate preferred) from an accredited college or university in a complementary field and at least six years of experience in university development with a strong record of accomplishment in fundraising in a university environment or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
