Department Summary The UCLA Police Department is a leader in providing progressive law enforcement services to a major urban campus and its surrounding community. We are dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment for teaching, research and public service. We do this through patrol, rapid response to calls for service, investigations, education and implementation of preventative strategies. Our work, grounded in a community policing philosophy, utilizes campus partnerships as the most effective approach for insuring a safe campus. Position Summary The CSO Security Guard observes and reports from an established permanent duty station as a uniformed, unarmed representative of the UCLA Police Department. As a regular presence in that part of the UCLA community, the security guard acts as the eyes and ears of the Police Department for all issues requiring emergency responders. As well, the CSO Security Guard assists local staff in enforcing building, campus and University policies. Salary & Compensation UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications* Security Work Two years experience in security related work (Required) Skill in interacting diplomatically with the public in a high volume, continuous public contact setting. (Required) Ability to assess a problematic or emergency situation and plan/execute an appropriate solution in a quick manner. (Required) Ability to relay information, either in writing or verbally, in a professional manner, in order to write reports or relay information to the public or to the organization and its representatives. (Required) Ability to hear and see to identify life threatening or criminal circumstances and communicate that information over a two-way police radio. (Required) Ability to independently resolve issues working within a set of policies and procedures. (Required) Detailed knowledge of campus geography in order to expedite calls and to be an effective information source. (Preferred) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations High School Attended High School (Required) Driver's License At Hire (Required) Special Conditions for Employment Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation. Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment. Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired. COVID and Flu Vaccinations: The position is subject to providing evidence of inoculation. CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA. The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse". Clery Act: The position is a designated CSA (Campus Security Authority) under Clery Act requirements.
