Michigan Technological University seeks an Assistant Professor of Sound to teach in the BA Sound Design and BS Audio Production & Technology major programs. The sound programs are supported through the integration of Music, Theatre and Art in the department as well as collaboration with other units in the College of Sciences and Arts, the College of Engineering, and the College of Computing. The successful candidate will have a strong mix of professional and teaching experience. This position requires a mix of classroom teaching and supervision of applied production work as well as creative activity in sound. In addition to department-based production, the degree programs include integration with the University Enterprise Program where students work in multidisciplinary teams on real world projects

Responsibilities and Essential Duties
|
Classroom teaching will include 2-3 classes per semester in a breadth of technical, artistic and practical courses in sound. Practicum teaching will involve supervising student work in one or more areas, including: sound design for theatre and themed entertainment, sound for picture, live music reinforcement, streaming, and recording, and studio recording-based on the candidate's expertise as well as other projects of interest to the candidate.
Candidates will be expected to clearly communicate in written, oral and graphical communication modes.

Terminal degree relevant to the teaching of sound.

Required Experience
|
The successful candidate will have a mix of professional and teaching experience. This position requires a mix of classroom teaching and supervision of applied production work, as well as personal creative or research activity in sound.

|
* Two years teaching experience in sound related disciplines. * Three years of professional sound work.

Work Environment and/or Physical Demands
|
Work Environment and/or Physical Demands: The work environment is that of a typical office, classroom, and production setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. The hearing health of our faculty, staff, and students is important, and a variety of solutions are available for situations involving louder sound. It is expected this position will help students learn to make healthy decisions around their hearing. |
