Basic Function

The Rotating Equipment Engineer is responsible for providing technical engineering support leading to reliable and safe operations of plant rotating equipment. The technical support will be in providing mechanical engineering support for process plant rotating equipment, primarily focusing on pump and compressor systems.

Job Duties

(functions considered essential as defined by ADA)



  • Develop, manage and participate in programs, methods, systems and practices for maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Responsible for carrying out all work activities in compliance with federal and state environmental regulations.
  • Perform duties in adherence with company procedures, standards, and specifications.
  • Assist production and maintenance organizations throughout the plant in troubleshooting and repairs of rotating equipment.
  • Monitor rotating equipment and make recommendations to improve reliability and reduce cost.
  • Develop and review general and asset specific rotating equipment repair procedures.
  • Provide training to production, maintenance, and technical departments in the proper operation and maintenance of rotating equipment.
  • Develop and sponsor capital and expense projects to reduce overall plant risk and maintenance costs. Provide technical support throughout design and installation of projects.
  • Assist training departments with development and review of operating procedures for rotating equipment.
  • Maintain rotating equipment KPI's and review for trends in equipment repairs. Develop plans to mitigate repeat rotating equipment failures.
  • Researches and stays abreast of new technology and equipment and evaluate for use within the plant.
  • Attend technical meetings and seminars to maintain and improve skills as related to their discipline and areas of maintenance management.
  • Review proposals of outside vendors regarding the purchase of new or modernization of existing rotating equipment.
  • Resolve a variety of complex problems, (i.e. conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult coordination requirements), and solves technical problems related to projects, troubleshoots and updates report data for business unit(s) depending on assignment
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate preventative maintenance programs.



Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from timeto time in their sole and complete discretion

Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive work experience in a specific engineering discipline. A strong understanding of basic refinery processes and the elements of process safety is required for Process Safety Engineering discipline. Emphasis on power distribution and controls engineering is required of the electrical discipline depending on assignment. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Professional Engineer registration is preferred. Refinery or petrochemical industry experience preferred. Some or all of FCC, CCR, Alky, Sulfur unit, Delayed Coking, Lubes Processing and hydrotreating experience is preferred for Chemical discipline depending on assignment.
Education Level
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline is required with a Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.
Required Skills

REQUIRED SKILLS:



  • Familiar with API Recommended Practices regarding Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes
  • Demonstrated proficiency with ASME Section I and Section VIII, B31.1 (boiler piping) and B31.3 (process piping), API 510, 570/571, 580/581, 650/653
  • Familiar with quantitative risk management tools and techniques.
  • Familiar with all common methods of NDE used in the petrochemical industry



Intermediate knowledge of commonly used engineering concepts and ability to apply this knowledge analytically. Ability to coordinate all phases of a project

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility
May be responsible for the supervision of personnel as well as contractors.
Work Conditions
Office and plant based with up to 10% travel required. Subject to varying weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures, including outdoors.

Physical Requirements
Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing up to 200 ft, perceiving color differences, required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards are not permitted), ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, valid state driver's license and proof of insurance required. Job conditions may require making precise hand and finger movements, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.
