Job Summary

Academic Information & Systems (AIS) is a centralized department of Systems Analysts within the Enrollment Management and Student Success Division that support the academic, administrative and operational units of Drexel University. The AIS Team of Systems Analysts, Senior Systems Analysts and Systems Analyst Managers maintain the functional aspects of the core enterprise software applications that house student information across the enrollment lifecycle, providing training, documentation and support to all users.

The Systems Analyst is responsible for functional support, ensuring student systems operate efficiently and effectively by applying technologic and business practice solutions. The Systems Analyst provides demonstrated expertise and leadership to the departments and users of the supported systems. The goal of the Systems Analyst is to optimize the value derived from the use of the administrative and student systems.

The Systems Analyst will act as a key member of the Student Team within AIS and will primarily support the Office of the Provost, the Office of the University Registrar, Student Life, and Academic Advising across Drexel University.

Essential Functions



  • Interfaces regularly with the Provost's Office, Registrar's Office and Academic Advising to analyze business practices, evaluate the needs of the units, and to recommend and implement software solutions as needed.
  • Partners with the Vice Provost of Undergraduate Education, the Catalog Editor and faculty and staff across the University to promote and support the use of Course Leaf for submitting, reviewing and approving course and program proposals.
  • Collaborates with the Provost's Office, Colleges and Advising Units to ensure program requirements and plans of study are accurately listed in Degree Works, the university's official degree auditing application.
  • Partners with the Registrar's Office to ensure accurate and timely room and course section scheduling.
  • Partners with the Registrar's Office to ensure graduating seniors are cleared for degree in a timely manner.
  • Collaborates with Academic Advising to promote the proper use of Degree Works and other advising applications through training, documentation and ongoing technical and functional support.
  • Collaborates with Student Life to support student referral systems and academic resource centers across campus. Works with administrative offices and academic departments to define, develop and document office and inter-office policies and procedures.
  • Performs needs assessment, cost-benefit analysis, system integration, design support and general change management support.
  • Works with Drexel IT Software Engineers and Database Administrators, as well as outside vendors to maintain student systems, facilitate upgrades, and act as the liaison between end-users and the technical support group.
  • Reviews and analyzes the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develops plans for improving or further leveraging their functionality.
  • Evaluates vendor documentation for upgrades and new releases of supported software to assess the potential impact.
  • Develops test plans and participates in testing upgrades and new releases.
  • Creates training plans, training documentation and conducts training sessions related to student software systems and processes.
  • Manages projects, people and tasks to ensure goals and objectives are completed on time.
  • Develops data models and reports that support the needs of administrators and senior management.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications



  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. (Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting technology development and/or as systems analyst.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work some Sundays for testing a few times a year, if needed.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or Business.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to prioritize projects and multi-task.
  • Project management background that includes complex, multifunction technical projects.
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner Student module.
  • Experience with a degree audit and course planning application (e.g. Degree Works).
  • Experience with a catalog management application (e.g. Course Leaf).
  • Experience with a class and room scheduling software.
  • Experience managing and supporting a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) application (e.g. Oracle Cx, Salesforce, SLATE etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to generate reports using report-generation tools.
  • Familiarity with SQL and relational databases beneficial.
  • Specific knowledge of Oracle Analytics Server (OAS), Data Visualizer (DV) and BI Publisher (BIP).
  • Experience collaborating with software engineers, delivering technical training to non-technical audiences, implementing new software applications, and testing system upgrades.

This position is classified as Exempt, grade M. Compensation for this grade ranges from $75,200 - $112,790 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
