Job Summary

The Structured Cabling Technician I is an entry-level position responsible for assisting with the installation and maintenance of low-voltage cabling systems in commercial environments. This role supports structured cabling projects by installing, routing, dressing, and terminating CAT5e and CAT6 cables in accordance with blueprints, safety standards, and established procedures. The Technician I works under supervision to gain hands-on experience and develop the technical skills required for growth within the telecom and low-voltage industry.

Job Responsibilities




  • Install and route cable infrastructure, including CAT5e and CAT6 cabling systems



  • Dress and route cables into IT closets, modular furniture, and designated outlet locations



  • Install cable pathways such as J-hooks, D-rings, cable trays, and ladder racks



  • Perform cable management tasks, including bundling, dressing, and labeling cables



  • Terminate cables at jacks, keystones, and modular RJ-45 plugs



  • Assist with wireless access point installation



  • Read, interpret, and follow blueprints and written installation instructions



  • Communicate clearly and professionally with team members and supervisors



  • Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and jobsite cleanup in accordance with OSHA standards




Job Requirements




  • High school diploma or GED required



  • 0-2 years of experience in commercial structured cabling, low-voltage, or data cable installation



  • OSHA 10 certification preferred



  • Basic knowledge of cabling tools, equipment, and installation practices



  • Ability to read and follow blueprints and technical instructions



  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, and willingness to learn industry standards



  • Ability to work on ladders, scissor lifts, and in confined spaces



  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds



  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical labor for extended periods



  • Required tools include basic hand tools such as a multi-bit screwdriver, tape measure, snips, needle-nose pliers, channel locks, cable stripper, punch down tool, flashlight, gloves, and a tool pouch



  • Steel toe or composite toe work boots required
