Manufacturing Engineering Intern



Job Summary:


This position is responsible for supporting production needs and project work. Duties include day to day problem solving, new process development, evaluation of product, fixture and tooling designs for manufacturability. Responsibilities include providing day to day review of Bill of Materials, Routers, costing, Engineering Change Orders and Engineering Orders. This position requires a "Hands On" approach and active involvement supporting day to day production needs, continuous improvement initiatives including projects focused on the maintenance, upgrading, specification and installation of machines and equipment. Candidates must have excellent communication skills, good problem-solving capabilities and the ability to work collaboratively across the organization.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Review and Interpretation of engineering drawings
  • Provide day to day troubleshooting assistance and support the Engineering and Operations departments
  • Develop new designs for fixtures and tooling to support production, new product development and process improvement initiatives
  • Participate in the review of new product design proposals for DFM / DFA
  • Development of supporting documentation including drawings, work instructions, procedures and processes
  • Participate in the establishment of routings, processes, layouts, tools, costs, and labor standards for manufacturing processes
  • Participate in the establishment of standard work processes and procedures
  • Assist in the design, development and implementation of new machines and equipment
  • Support organizational CI Initiatives
  • Perform other related duties as assigned



Education:



  • A.S / B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering/Engineering Technology Degree or demonstrated experience in a similar Manufacturing environment
  • Working towards a degree in Engineering



Experience:



  • 0-3 years' experience
  • Experience with 3D modeling software Solidworks and/or Inventor
  • Strong computer skills and analytical skills
  • Assembly and/or manufacturing shop floor experience is a plus
  • Base knowledge of machining tolerances and process capabilities



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Base knowledge in inspection tools and methods
  • Must be able to work in a highly collaborative environment
  • Must be hands on and interface with plant personnel and operators
  • Ability to identify and solve problems with little direction or assistance
  • Base knowledge of machine elements (i.e. fasteners, bearings, gear and belt drive etc.)
  • Base knowledge and ability to utilize CAD systems



Physical Requirements:



  • This position is mainly sedentary and is therefore, required to sit
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk throughout the facility
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Occasionally will need to bend, stoop and squat

  • The work environment conditions are typical of a manufacturing environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the basic functions. The noise level in the work environment ranges from quiet to moderate, however, hearing protection may be required if employee enters high noise areas as a part of their normal job duties.
