DESCRIPTION

Under the general direction of the Executive Director, assumes leadership and full functional responsibility for the planning, development, implementation, evaluation and management of the Equity Research and Analytics unit in support of the campus. This includes directly managing professional staff in programmatic and research roles in the planning, development, organizing, implementation, coordination and evaluation of unit projects and operations. Is responsible for coordinating, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensiveinstitutional research program on equity, diversity and inclusion aspects of UC San Diego faculty, students, and staff. The Director establishes and prioritizes short and long range goals for program implementation, growth and assessment. Is responsible for completing management level assignments for the division including data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting; works closely with administrative and academic units to collect and analyze outcomes data. Consults with administrative units in measuring and analyzing performance outcomes; designs, measures and collects data to assess campus-wide goals and objectives.

Manage strategic planning and implementation of an integrated plan for the development of data informed decisions across the UC San Diego campus, including design of instruments and protocols (qualitative and quantitative), data collection, analysis and reporting. Works closely and collaboratively with administrative and academic units to collect relevant data, from both local and external sources. Analyses includes producing descriptive results and developing sophisticated statistical models to predict outcomes (e.g., linear regression with fixed effects, multilevel modeling, event history analysis, survival analysis).

Measures and analyzes performance outcomes to assess progress towards institutional EDI (Equity, Diversity &Inclusion) goals and objectives. Participates in research studies related to these areas to inform the creation of policy and strategic planning. Supports new initiatives to create and maintain robust accountability systems including the development of departmental strategic plans and assessment tools for EDI initiatives and the campus systems and methods to support them. Serves as a resource to the campus community (students, faculty, administrators) in areas requiring technical expertise and knowledge related to the interpretation and review of EDI data.

The Director also oversees a comprehensive assessment function essential to monitoring and reporting on program and unit EDI effectiveness. Researches current issues and trends to inform campus decision making.Synthesizes and summarizes complex information in formats appropriate for various audiences. The Director operations with a high level of autonomy, exercising independent judgment to perform assigned duties and solve problems.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Has knowledge of institutional research and project management skills. Demonstrated experience in researching, writing and discussing institutional research reports for campus wide constituency, including definition of issues and/or problems, quantitative results of statistical analyses, and communications to academic and administrative management.

  • Able to access information through data warehouses and provide quantitative analysis. Training in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, with demonstrated experience in program evaluation, applied research methods (e.g., analysis of survey data, longitudinal analysis) and outcomes assessment.

  • Graduation from college with a major in business administration, statistics, educational administration, or an allied field, and six years of experience in administrative analysis or operations research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Able to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, complex and technical information in a clear and concise manner. Strong writing skills and ability to organize ideas, data, and meaning to communicate clearly to a wide range of personnel. Skill in writing logical, grammatically correct analytical reports, correspondence, training materials, and procedures, which clearly articulate ideas and meaning.

  • Has knowledge of organizational and system protocols and procedures. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in data management computer applications, query tools (e.g., SQL) and relational databases in order to extract data from existing systems and restructure data in a manner that allows for robust analysis and information.

  • Proficiency in organizing and reporting data with strong attention to detail and accuracy and ability to solve complex research methodology. Experience in interpreting and evaluating research results.

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative in developing, independently planning, organizing, researching, and writing special studies and projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize advanced level statistical knowledge (SPSS/SAS/STATA software, methodologies, and theory) in order to analyze complex and diverse computer generated data to aid in strategic planning and dissemination of information.

  • Experience in formulating and recommending plans, programs, and policies that may have campus wide impact, based on quantitative and qualitative research.

  • Demonstrated skills to organize workload priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment; ability to be flexible to respond to unexpected job demands and changes in priorities.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Hybrid work location with non set schedule to come to work on campus once per week.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $108,100 - $204,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $51.77 - $98.13

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
