Job Description: A communications contractor is seeking experienced Cable Construction Technicians to support fiber optic and coaxial network builds across multiple markets, with a current focus on Tennessee. Technicians will work in field crews alongside leads and fiber splicers, performing hands-on cable installation and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities * Install, pull, and terminate coaxial cables (underground and aerial) * Read and interpret blueprints and construction documents * Use hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment (e.g., Fluke testers) * Work within public rights-of-way following safety protocols and PPE requirements * Travel up to 30% with overnight stays (per diem and lodging provided) * Collaborate with team leads and coordinators to meet project standards *Top Skills Required* * *Experience* * Minimum 3 years in Outside Plant (OSP) telecommunications * Hands-on work with underground or aerial cable construction * *Technical* * Skilled in splicing, balancing, activating, and troubleshooting coaxial signals * Familiarity with coax sizes including .625 and .875 * *Testing* * Proficient with Fluke testers * Experienced in using Time Domain Reflectometers (TDRs) Additional Skills & Qualifications * Familiarity with coaxial cable color codes * Experience terminating connectors and performing basic signal tests * Knowledge of conduit installation * Safe operation of aerial lift bucket trucks and ladders * Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions * Strong communication and teamwork skills * Basic proficiency with email and MS Excel * Valid driver's license, drug screening, and background check required * High School Diploma or GED Preferred (Not Required) * Fiber optic cable installation and termination * Fiber splicing experience * Use of OTDR testers and light meters * Crew management experience Work Environment & Culture * Fast-paced, team-oriented outdoor work setting * Standardized advancement opportunities * Strong benefits upon permanent hire: * 2 weeks vacation * 1 week sick pay * Competitive 401(k) match (100% vested after 1 year) * Company vehicle provided during contract and permanent employment Business Drivers This role supports expanding broadband infrastructure, including cable TV, remote work enablement, and 5G deployment. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
