What You Can Expect Working in the "Preconstruction Solutions Engineer" Position

The Preconstruction Solutions Engineer is responsible for ensuring engineered-to-order (ETO) project opportunities are technically feasible, code-compliant, and clearly defined before proposals are issued. This role operates at the intersection of Sales, Estimating, Engineering, and the customer - including General Contractors (GCs), EPC firms, and Owner Representatives - serving as the technical authority in the pre-award phase. This position safeguards RedGuard's reputation for precision and compliance while enabling informed, competitive, and defensible project proposals.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary technical authority during the preconstruction phase, providing expertise to ensure all Custom Projects meet customer expectations, code requirements, and RedGuard standards.
  • Review and interpret customer specifications, drawings, and RFQs to evaluate scope feasibility, compliance requirements, and areas needing clarification or exception.
  • Collaborate with Estimating, Sales, and Leadership teams to align cost models, technical requirements, and risk assessments with overall proposal strategy.
  • Validate and redline proposals prior to submission to ensure accuracy, alignment with customer requirements, and adherence to applicable codes and documented assumptions.
  • Participate in technical discovery calls, pre-bid meetings, and clarification sessions with customers, general contractors, EPCs, and Owner Representatives to resolve design or specification questions.
  • Partner with Engineering and Drafting teams to confirm that proposed solutions meet structural, electrical, mechanical, environmental, and life-safety standards, including RedGuard's proprietary blast and ballistic design criteria.
  • Support post-award handoff and process improvement efforts, ensuring accurate scope execution and contributing to increased proposal accuracy, speed, and departmental alignment.
  • Maintain current knowledge of U.S. and international building codes and standards (IBC, ASCE, NEC, UL, seismic, wind, etc.) while upholding RedGuard's commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial construction, modular, industrial, or engineered-to-order project environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of building codes and standards (IBC, ASCE, NEC, UL, etc.).
  • Proven ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and submittal requirements.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to quickly identify risks or misalignments.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; able to clearly explain technical concepts to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational discipline, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple complex opportunities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; ability to comfortably view and interpret AutoCAD or Revit drawings.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience collaborating directly with GCs, EPCs, or Owner Representatives during preconstruction.
  • Background in modular or specialty building systems (e.g., blast-resistant, ballistic, mission-critical, or industrial enclosures).
  • Familiarity with API RP 752/753, FEMA or other high-risk environment design standards.
  • Exposure to CRM and/or ERP systems (e.g., HubSpot, Odoo).
  • Experience developing or reviewing technical proposals or bid packages.
