Maintenance Assistant - Landscape Division (Engineering & Public Works) part-time

Interviews will be conducted as applications are received. This position will remain open until filled.



JOB SUMMARY:

This position usually performs manual work of an unskilled nature. Work consists of assisting staff in the maintenance and repair of village infrastructure, buildings, grounds, and facilities. This position may also perform semi-skilled mechanical labor, custodial work, and operating a vehicle. This position will be in the Landscape Division, some experience and knowledge in the public or private tree care industry, with tree maintenance activities such as tree trimming, and tree removal is desirable.



JOB DUTIES:

1. Performs a variety of routine unskilled manual tasks, uses simple tools, and carries and wheels heavy material as required.
2. Performs minor maintenance and custodial work in the care of village owned buildings, grounds, and facilities.
3. Performs shop and yard clean-up and organization. Is responsible for the arrangement, location, and proper operation of job-related tools and equipment in the shop/yard environment.
4. Assists in processing and filling material requests and distributions of both fleet and public works-related material.
5. Thorough knowledge of the department's standard operating procedures and safety practices.
6. Keeps accurate records of accomplishments.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Maintains records, inventory supply lists, and log entries. Assists inventory control specialists with procurement and inventory processes. Assists technicians in automotive fleet maintenance and repairs.



QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education equivalent to a high school diploma.
2. A minimum of six months of general maintenance or related experience.
3. Possession of a valid driver's license.
4. Proficiency with current computer technology, job-specific software, and customer service systems.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Physical strength and agility sufficient to do strenuous laboring tasks under varying weather conditions. Ability to lift and move 75 pounds frequently.
2. Willingness to work manual labor under adverse environmental conditions.
3. Subject to frequently changing walking surfaces.
4. Frequent and/or prolonged bending, stooping, standing, pulling, pushing, or reaching.
5. Occasionally works at heights/depths of 10 to 60 feet above or below ground.
6. Subject to extremes of temperature for prolonged periods or abrupt changes in temperature.
7. Subject to inclement weather conditions.
8. Subject to fumes and disagreeable odors.
9. Subject to extended periods of isolation.
10. Subject to high levels of noise for an extended period.
11. Subject to working in wet, dirty, dusty, hot, humid, and/or cold conditions in high vehicle traffic areas.



STARTING SALARY RANGE: $29.69 - $33.03 per hour working up to 19 hours per week. Salary dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is $29.69 - $43.05.

Part-Time employees are not eligible for benefits.
