Job Description
The Alumni Engagement Manager plays a vital role within the Alumni Engagement team, contributing to the strategic planning and execution of events and initiatives that foster meaningful connections between alumni, constituents and the University's mission. This position is responsible for designing and implementing impactful events and communication strategies, and requires strong operational expertise to manage budgets, analyze engagement data, and collaborate effectively across the team. The Alumni Engagement Manager reports to the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement. Primary responsibilities include:
- Lead planning, coordination and execution of all logistical aspects of signature UMSL Alumni Association events, as well as alumni affinity group events and regional alumni gatherings, including pre-event interactions, alumni and vendor relations, all on-site details, event program and preparation and post-event follow-up.
- Build and manage event registration pages; update internal office calendars with relevant event information; track attendance; and ensure seamless data integration for post-event analysis and alumni engagement tracking.
- Work with Advancement Communications to create robust communication plans including mail, e-mails, social media, geofencing, and personal outreach to drive alumni engagement.
- Manage budget, assess financial implications, and effectively negotiate cost containment strategies as necessary.
- Develop and manage project plans, production timelines and other documents; draft briefings for campus partners.
- Serve as an active and enthusiastic partner to all advancement functions and campus colleagues to foster strategic, effective, and collaborative efforts that are informed through best practices and constituent feedback.
- Provide support for university signature events as needed, as well as other activities (receptions, groundbreakings, ribbon-cuttings, and other stewardship engagement functions).
- Oversee and mentor Student Ambassadors on event-related administrative and production tasks and constituent relations ensuring accuracy of information and positive outcomes.
- Develop a year-long engagement plan for milestone reunion celebrations to include save-the-date, class surveys, personal outreach by students and a series of small events, including Golden Graduates at May Commencement.
- Set goals, metrics and objectives and utilize judgement to ensure outcomes are achieved; seek continuous improvement.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree and at least 2-3 years of experience in events management, alumni engagement, development or nonprofit volunteer management.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and work effectively in a large, complex institutional setting.
- High level of customer service skills, including demonstrated ability to understand and address the unique needs of a wide variety of audiences.
- Outstanding attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Working knowledge of development and engagement principles.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal, written and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lift 25 lbs. and work on feet for extended periods of time.
Anticipated Hiring Range
