Summary of Job Duties:The position is responsible for serving the on-campus researchers' technical hardware and software needs. The position works directly with faculty to help maintain the research instrumentation used by the researcher including the electron microscope and other sensitive data collection hardware. The position will administer and operate the Open Science Grid nodes on campus. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An Associate's degree in Computer Science or a related field or three years of experience working in Information Technology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field or five years of experience working in Information Technology.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain academic research instrumentation support machines;
  • Work directly with research faculty to maintain their devices that communicate with research instrumentation;
  • Operate and maintain the cluster of Open Science Grid nodes;
  • Maintain server hardware and software for several research departments;
  • Maintain PC hardware systems and diagnose and solve user PC hardware and operating
    systems problems and coordinate systems upgrades;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Microsoft desktop administration skills;
  • fundamental Unix system administration skills;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with users;
  • Expert knowledge of Windows, Apple, UNIX, Linux operating systems, and macOS;
  • Familiarity with standard software (MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, various web browsers, etc);
  • requires a basic understanding of network protocols such as RDP, SSH, DNS, etc.
