Pay Range: $84,576 - $188,880 Annually

$84,576 - $157,464 Annually for the TSS.2 Level

$101,376 - $188,880 Annual for the TSS.3 Level

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. Job Description

We have an opening for aField Environmental Analyst (EA)in the Environmental Functional Area (EFA) within the Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) Associate Directorate. As a Field EA in EFA's Field Support Group you will be deployed to the Integrated Safety Teams where you will enable LLNL programs to achieve comprehensive environmental compliance.

This position may offer a hybrid schedule, which includes the flexibility to work from home one or moredays per week, after a probationary period. The specifics of the hybrid schedule, including the exact number of days required in the office and virtual work options may vary based on the needs of the team and the organization.

This position will be filled at eitherlevel based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

You will

  • Maintain and apply comprehensive understanding of EFA's compliance areas, environmental permits, procedures and best management practices.
  • Conduct routine assessments and observations of operations and facilities to identify potential compliance risks and recommend solutions in accordance with LLNL's established practices and procedures.
  • Evaluate waste management activities, including storage, treatment, and disposal, to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and LLNL's waste management standards.
  • Review work control documents, design drawings, and technical documents to identify environmental permitting requirements or compliance concerns coordinating with subject matter experts to resolve issues proactively.
  • Review environmental sample results and make applicable recommendations to the program to control environmental aspects and mitigate consequences of releases.
  • Provide Spill and Release response support to environmental incidents on site.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the TSS.3 level

  • Recommend solutions, in coordination with Subject Matter Experts, and based on your knowledge of EFA's compliance areas, permits, procedures and best management practices.
  • Lead assessments and observations of operations and facilities to identify potential environmental issues, alternatives for control or corrective action, and negotiate, recommend and implement solutions.
  • Conduct complex analyses and assessments of operations, facilities, work control documents, design drawings, and other technical documents to identify permitting requirements or compliance concerns for the Environmental Functional Area, and collaborate with subject matter experts to negotiate, recommend and implement solutions.
  • Write and review technical reports and prepare environmental documents and assist in developing and presenting courses and presentations on environmental topics.

Qualifications
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor'sdegree in environmental sciences,environmental engineering, chemistry, biology, geology or related field or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Previous relevant experience with local, state, and federal rules and regulations and providing spill and release response and remediation support.
  • Experience conducting assessment and inspection activities, performing pre-inspection audits, and participating in the investigation of incidents or accidents involving environmental hazards.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and to present and communicate technical information to researchers, other EAs, and relevant technical staff.
  • Effective organizational skills with attention to detail necessary to handle multiple moderately complex tasks in a demanding environment with conflicting priorities, tight and changing deadlines, and frequent interruptions while providing high-level customer service and good follow through.
  • Experience working independently and in a team environment with a broad cross-section of people and organizations, and meeting schedules.

Additional qualifications at the TSS.3 level

  • Significant experience in environmental compliance with advanced knowledge of local, state and federal rules and regulations; providing emergency response and remediation support; participating in the investigation of incidents or accidents involving environmental hazards; and conducting assessment and inspection activities.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and demonstrated ability to present and communicate complex technical information to all levels of management, both internal and external to the Laboratory.
  • Advanced analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills to evaluate, interpret, negotiate, recommend and implement actions/solutions for complex problems.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Master's degree in chemistry, environmental sciences,environmental engineering or related field.
  • Familiarity with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), California Hazardous Waste Control Law (HWCL), Bay Area Air District (BAAD), Spill Prevention, Control & Countermeasures (SPCC), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), DOE Orders, radioactive waste management, medical waste requirements and Department of Transportation waste regulations.
  • Familiarity with Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP).
  • Experience with providing environmental compliance support to construction projects or research and development projects.

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
