POSITION TITLE: HVAC Mechanic POSITION SUMMARY: Performs maintenance, installation, and repairs of a wide variety of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems throughout the institute. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Maintain, install, alter, and/or repair air distribution systems, exhaust and supply fans, variable frequency drive systems, pneumatic and other control systems, air compressors, vacuum pumps, fan coils, evaporative condensers, electrical circuits, electrical motor control centers, and heating equipment;
- Charge refrigeration systems with refrigerant, check operation, and adjust for leaks;
- Respond to emergency calls, locate and determine cause of equipment malfunctions, analyze problems and take corrective steps to repair or replace equipment as needed;
- Inspect and test equipment; replace worn air filters, belts, blower wheels, shafts, bearings, relays, fuses, switches, condensers, thermostats and other equipment parts. Inspect motors and checks load amperage and static pressure in system, lubricate bearings, flush and re-insulate lines, clean equipment for maximum efficiency;
- Maintain cold rooms and warm rooms, check temperature settings, inspect and replace equipment as needed;
- Prefabricate and install piping or air distribution systems, repair and replace valves and fittings;
- Install, repair and replace water, gas, vacuum and compressed air and waste lines;
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, layouts or other specifications to determine installation or repair requirements;
- Interact with TSRI personnel, utility companies, contractors and vendors to evaluate, plan and coordinate work. Estimate labor and material costs for work requests. May order supplies.
- Perform routine work orders and preventative maintenance tasks, as assigned;
- Accurately record daily hours worked and time spent on individual tasks;
- Work daily with the Facilities Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) Software;
- May perform related tasks and work of other Facilities department personnel, as required or assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
- Completion of approved HVAC and refrigeration training program.
- Minimum of 4 years of directly related experience.
- Requires experience in the use of test air balance and HVAC diagnostic equipment, with proven ability to compute heat load calculations and air exchange ratios.
- Must meet all required federal and state license requirements including EPA certification to handle refrigerant.
- Requires professional interpersonal, communication, and written skills.
- Ability to evaluate mechanical and electrical systems for coordination with other facilities staff.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, with or without accommodation, up to 50 pounds, use hand power tools, and work under time constraints.
- Requires valid driver license issued from the state in which the position is located.
- May be required to participate in facilities call-back or off hours interruptions.
COMPENSATION: The expected hiring range for this position is $40.00-$45.00/hourly, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements. COMPREHENSIVE BENEFITS INCLUDE:
