Job Summary:

The Director Artificial Intelligence (AI) Solutions Engineering is a strategic and hands-on leader responsible for defining and communicating the enterprise AI architecture across Surescripts' platforms, applications, and systems. This role partners closely with cross-functional teams including product management, engineering, and design and ensures AI capabilities are thoughtfully integrated into solutions that are valuable, usable, viable, and feasible.

The Director AI Solutions Engineering will guide the architectural vision for AI across the enterprise, enabling empowered product teams to deliver innovative, scalable, and responsible AI solutions. They will facilitate key architectural decisions, prototype and model advanced AI capabilities, and ensure alignment with business strategy and technical feasibility. The role also plays a critical part in evaluating new technologies, integrating partner systems, and shaping the roadmap for AI-Native transformation.

The incumbent will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including technology and business executives to ensure that AI architecture supports long-term strategic goals while enabling rapid experimentation and delivery. This role requires deep expertise in AI/ML frameworks, data platforms, and system design, along with a strong commitment to ethical and responsible AI practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and communicate the enterprise AI architecture across Surescripts' platforms, ensuring alignment with business strategy, technical feasibility, and responsible AI principles.
  • Partner with product teams-including product management, engineering, and design-to guide the integration of AI capabilities into solutions that are valuable, usable, and feasible.
  • Architect and model scalable, interoperable, and ethical AI solutions, enabling rapid experimentation and reliable deployment across the enterprise.
  • In partnership with other technical leaders such as the Chief Technology Officer, Chief Information Officer, and others, lead technical due diligence for new AI technologies, partners, and acquisitions, assessing architectural fit and integration strategy.
  • Prototype and validate AI capabilities, collaborating with engineering and architecture teams to accelerate delivery and reduce risk.
  • Facilitate architecture and design reviews, surfacing key trade-offs and enabling transparent decision-making across product teams.
  • Establish and evolve AI platform standards, including model governance, MLOps practices, and data architecture to support enterprise-wide AI adoption.
  • Stay current with emerging AI technologies and frameworks and translate trends into actionable strategies for Surescripts.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, contributing to long-term planning and investment decisions related to AI and data platforms.
  • Mentor and develop technical talent, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning across architecture and engineering teams.

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of related, progressive experience
  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership role within a technology or healthcare organization with a focus on leading tech leads and mentoring engineers
  • 3+ years developing and implementing technology solutions in a healthcare setting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years developing and implementing AI solutions in a healthcare setting
  • Experience working in the SVPG framework or substantially similar outcomes-driven product operating model

At Surescripts, base pay is one part of our Total Rewards Package (which may also include bonus, benefits etc.) and is determined within a range. The base pay range for this position is $238,750 - $291,850 per year. Your base pay may vary within or outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including (but not limited to) your qualifications, skills, experience, and location.
