SENIOR DEVELOPMENT CHEMIST - AEROSPACE

M-F: 1st Shift

The Senior Development Chemist - Aerospace is responsible for the formulation, research, and development of new products in the Aerospace market.

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Responsible for staying abreast of technical innovations in the Coating's Industry.
  • Provide expertise to R&D personnel in areas of formulation, pigmentation, and vehicle systems.
  • Report progress on projects to Management on a weekly basis or more often as needed.
  • Develop new products for Aerospace customers per their requirements.
  • Develop products and solve technical issues without direction.
  • Exercise wise discretion when solving challenges.
  • Provide technical assistance for existing accounts.
  • Build knowledge of analytical methods for solving problems.
  • Train production personnel.
  • Resolve questions and concerns regarding customer needs and production problems.
  • Exhibit demonstrated decision-making abilities.
  • Plan activities for support personnel.
  • Conduct regular training for existing employees to ensure employee growth.
  • Champions safety and housekeeping initiatives and communicate them to all employees.
    • Monitors quality of products produced to ensure adherence to company standards.
    • Responsible for adherence to safety rules by all direct reports, promoting safe work practices, coaching and any necessary safety training required in addition to that provided by the corporate safety trainer. Also, is responsible for stopping and reporting any safety violations when observed throughout the facility.
    • As part of the housekeeping procedures, the employee may be involved with the disposal of hazardous waste. The initial training of how to properly dispose of hazardous waste will be performed by the Environmental and Safety department or the department supervisor. Annual training of the same will be performed by the EHS department.
  • Utilize the Business Operating System to report operations completed, materials issued, and other related transactions.
    • Participate in quality system audits for compliance with ISO and quality standards.
    • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Preferred education level: Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Chemistry; or demonstrated experience and ability in new coating product development.
  • Preferred experience level: 5 plus years' direct experience in an industrial manufacturing environment developing, formulating, and testing new and existing coatings technologies.
  • Experience with laboratory testing and coating application equipment.
  • Strong design of experiment skills and demonstrated ability to evaluate results and make product adjustments necessary to meet project objectives.
  • Must be a high energy, results driven individual with excellent communication, computer, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with the proactive problem-solving skills and work ethic necessary for timely completion of assigned projects.
  • Understands, supports, and conforms to company policies and processes. Integrates policies and processes into projects.
  • Superb oral and written communication skills with the ability to work well and collaboratively with peers, leadership, and cross functional teams.

  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, Outlook), ERP system and other office machinery.
  • Excellent team building and communications skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk and/or hear, stand, and/or walk, use hands to finger, handle or touch objects or controls, and move from place to place. The employee is regularly required to sit, balance, stoop, and occasionally reach above shoulders. The employee occasionally must use foot/feet to operate machinery, climb, or balance and reach above the shoulders. The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 65 lbs.

Personal Protection Equipment is required during various processes in the production area. Safety shoes, glasses, and flame-retardant uniforms are required in the production area. Respirators and ear plugs may be required when performing certain production activities.
