The Gulfport Job Corps Center serves students pursuing their GED or High School Diploma and/or training in Medical Administrative Assistant, Certified Nurse Assistant, or Electrical trades. As a branch federal program of the U.S. Department of Labor, Job Corps provides education, vocational training, and career development services to young people ages 16-24. About the CNA Program Instructor Role: The Certified Nurse Assistant Instructor is responsible for ensuring students gain the knowledge, skills, and clinical readiness required for certification and successful employment in long-term care, rehabilitation, home health, and other healthcare settings.
- Deliver high-quality classroom, lab, and hands-on instruction aligned with Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) Nurse Aide Training (NATCEP) requirements.
- Prepare students for state competency testing and certification.
- Train students in key areas including resident care, ADLs, infection control, patient safety, communication, ethical/legal responsibilities, and professionalism.
- Maintain accurate attendance, progress tracking, and completion records.
- Support student growth through coaching, tutoring, and skills remediation.
- Collaborate with center staff, including Wellness, Academics, and Career Transition, to support student success.
- Reinforce Job Corps Career Success Standards, emphasizing employability, professionalism, and personal responsibility.
What Makes Teaching CNA at Job Corps Unique?
CNA Instructors teach groups of approximately 18-20 students, allowing for more individualized instruction, hands-on practice, and coaching - especially during clinical lab activities.
- A Predictable and Supportive Schedule
Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:45 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. Lunch: 11:10 a.m. - 12:10 p.m. Students dismiss at 3:25 p.m., leaving dedicated time for lesson planning, documentation, and clinical coordination during the workday, not after hours.

Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Provide students with CTT instruction in a designated area of instruction.
- Motivate and counsel students in areas of behavior, training, and/or study habits.
- Coordinate with other industry team members to resolve issues affecting student training.
- Develop and prepare lessons. Recommend curricula changes and supplemental materials.
- Participate in student performance evaluations. Prepare required documentation and evaluations.
- Administer and correct tests. Maintain progress and attendance reports.
- Control use of supplies, materials, and equipment. Recommend purchases.
- Assist in developing community linkages and partnerships.
- Access and training students to use computers and applicable software.
- Monitor student progress in the program by ensuring compliance with established Data Integrity guidelines. This includes the accurate and timely reporting of student progress and skill acquisition on Training Achievement Records (TARs), auditing of active and terminated TARs, other documentation sensitive to Data Integrity policies.
- Teach, model, and evaluate student employability skills.
- Develop and conduct enrichment program as assigned.
- Maintain accountability of students and property. Adhere to safety practices.
- Cultivate and maintain a climate on Center which is free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect. Provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.
- Promote student attainment of career success standards through modeling appropriate skills, mentoring students, monitoring skill acquisition, and intervening when inappropriate behavior is observed.
- Transport students for training purposes as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Accountable For:
- Completing all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.
- Timely and cost effective performance of duties.
- Ability to effectively communicate and present information to students, management and line staff, corporate and DOL personnel and public groups.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret and manage data.
- Ability to develop rapport and positive working relationships with all departments
- Timely completion and accuracy of all departmental work.
- Dealing with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
- Adherence to established company safety policies and ability to work in a safe manner, using any required personal protective equipment (PPE) as may be required.
- Compliance with company standard operating procedures and personnel policies and procedures.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure required.
- Two (2) years' experience in the practice of nursing; one (1) of which must be in long-term care facility services.
- Completed a course in teaching adults or experience in teaching adults or supervising nurse's aides.
- Valid driver's license, with an acceptable driving record.
- Successfully pass background check and drug test.
Preferred:
- Higher level education and training.
- Previous Job Corps experience in an academic/instruction capacity.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed primarily in an office setting.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.
- Have a high level of social contact.
- They work closely with students and other office staff.
- Communicate with people daily by telephone, e-mail, and in person.
- Are occasionally placed in conflict situations in which others may become rude or unpleasant. Work as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
- This position requires the employee to be able to frequently required to sit, stand, walk and talk or hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
- Work somewhat close to other people, such as when sharing office space.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
