What to Expect
This engineer will lead the development, implementation and initial application of advanced automated test suites and other hardware to test various automotive systems and components. The ideal candidate has a proven record of success in the design and development of mechanical test equipment and controls as well as their application in an engineering/ manufacturing environment. They must have a broad technical background with the ability to work with engineering, manufacturing and quality personnel across a wide variety of technological domains. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute requirement to establish effective working relationships within and outside of Tesla.
What You'll Do
- Support Test Engineering team in the specification and development of apparatus and test suites for essential product validation programs
- Develop, design and implement robust systems for static and dynamic testing of vehicles and their subsystems
- Improve current test suites and setups for increased reliability, ergonomics, user friendliness and optimize footprint for efficient use of lab space
- Support Test Engineering team in root cause and problem resolution activities on test equipment issues found during tests as required
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers in the area of test equipment design and validation best practices
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Ability to design test equipment and fixturing capable of producing and reacting high static loads
- Ability to design reliable dynamic long duration cyclic loading apparatus (i.e. equipment must operate 24/7 with minimal user interaction
- Ability to design highly integrated electro-mechanical systems (e.g., stepper/servo motor control, closed loop feedback, sensor data acquisition
- Hands on experience with machining and fabrication techniques
- Familiarity with FEA tools and principles of simulation and analysis
- 5+years experience working in an industrial equipment design/engineering/manufacturing environment

Expected Compensation
$92,720 - $256,200/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
