| About the Department |
The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (
ARE) embodies excellence in research, teaching, and extension in the economics of agriculture and the economics of natural resources and the environment. Dedicated, student-focused faculty teach diverse courses and nurture industry connections to help students pursue rewarding careers. Researchers engage students in relevant, applied research. Extension specialists and associates conduct research-based education and training activities that benefit local and global communities including North Carolina's vibrant agricultural sector (9th ranked nationally in cash receipts from farming in 2022 (
USDA
NASS)).
ARE offers undergraduate major and minor programs in agricultural business management and a concentration in biological sciences business management within the agricultural business management program. At the graduate level, the department via the Economics Graduate Program, offers a Master of Science degree in economics, a Master of Economics degree, and a Ph.D. degree in economics. Beginning in Fall 2026, the department will also launch a Master in Agricultural Business Management program. These instructional programs are enriched by faculty members with extension and research activities which contribute to the relevance and thoroughness of the teaching program. The
ARE Department maintains a strong Office of Student Mentoring.
ARE is part of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, which conducts outstanding research, teaching, and extension programs and plays a vital role in North Carolina agriculture, food and fiber systems, environmental quality enhancement, and economic development.
ARE is housed in Nelson Hall along with The Poole College of Management (
PCOM) on the
NCSU Campus in Raleigh, North Carolina. |

| Essential Job Duties |
The Department of Agricultural & Resource Economics at North Carolina State University is seeking a tenure track Assistant Professor with a research and teaching focus in one or more of the following areas: agribusiness, production, marketing, commodity markets and/or agricultural policy.
This position is a tenure track position with a 9-month academic appointment, with responsibilities divided between research (40%) and teaching (60%). As a new Assistant Professor, you will play a key role in building the newly established Master's in Agribusiness Management program and contributing to the rapidly growing undergraduate program in Agricultural Business Management. You will teach three courses annually at either the graduate or undergraduate level.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Establishing and maintaining a successful research agenda that produces publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals
- Serving as an advisor to PhD students and on other graduate student committees as requested
- Serving on departmental, college, and university committees and engaging in professional governance and serviceCollaborating with existing faculty in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics.

- PhD degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or a closely related discipline.
