Overview

Join our team as a Billing Supervisor and play a key role in ensuring smooth, accurate day-to-day billing operations. In this role, you will oversee the billing service for your assigned area while managing the pre-certification and insurance verification process to support a seamless patient experience. You'll coach and mentor team members, assign daily tasks, and make sure resources are used effectively. You'll also handle complex, escalated questions, provide expert guidance, and review team output to ensure accuracy-especially when it comes to payroll processing. If you're a proactive leader with strong billing expertise and a passion for developing people, we'd love to have you on our team!

Location: Remote - applicants preferably reside in the UPH geography of Iowa, Illinois, or Wisconsin

Hours: Standard business hours

Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Provides leadership to ensure effective, efficient office operations, optimizing performance and continually improving quality outcomes in a vastly changing health care environment.
  • Responsible for overseeing the day to day workflow of the office including the review of staffing needs and supervision and training of staff in good customer relations and office procedures.
  • Establish effective mechanisms of communication with team members, patients, UnityPoint Health affiliate personnel and insurance companies to foster an environment, of openness, trust, teamwork and staff development.
  • Demonstrate sound fiscal management of operation through the elimination of waste.
  • Coordinates and plans monthly staff meetings.
  • Responsible for all aspects of hiring, interviewing and selecting staff.
  • Establishes productivity guidelines and monitors productivity and errors of staff.
  • Recommends and implements training based on these reports.
  • Monitors daily activity and productivity, recommending adjustments to staff responsibilities to meet department goals.
  • Works with the manager and trainer to develop an effective training program for new staff and ongoing training for existing staff.
  • Completes annual performance appraisals for direct reports.
  • Provides computer support to CBO staff. Computer system depends on supervisor's particular area. Examples of computer systems are LastWord, CareMedic, Softco/PC Doc, PCAP.

Qualifications
  • Two years experience in patient accounting, healthcare insurance or healthcare collections.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of diagnostic and procedural coding requirements in conjunction with submission of insurance claims to third party payers.
  • Knowledge of personnel administration and patient relation principles. Excellent academic credentials with a track record of professional accomplishments, which demonstrate superior performance, leadership and vision.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
