Howmet Fastening Systems is looking for a Machine Technician Chucker Operator in our Torrance, CA location. HFS is a business unit of Howmet Aerospace, headquartered in Torrance, California. We hold the number one global position in aerospace fastening systems, and we're the North American leader in commercial transportation fasteners. Our high-tech, multi-material fastening systems are found nose to tail on aircraft and aerospace engines. Our products are also critical components of industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, and construction and industrial equipment

General Summary:

Independently sets up and operates Chucker machine to perform machining operations such as castings, turnings, boring, threading and forging. This position also trains/mentors' new operators in the department.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Independently performs set-up within standard time per router; operating, troubleshooting and machine service work
  • Adjusts machine parts, tooling, including sharpening tools on surface or pedestal grinders
  • Responsible for producing and maintaining high level quality parts
  • Moves controls, cams, and stops to set rotation speeds and feed rates, and to control tool and workpiece movement for specified operations
  • Work with various types of materials such as Titanium, Inconel, 4130, 17-4, A-286, Aluminum and other stainless steel
  • Perform first piece verification process per part print as required
  • Perform Lock/Out Tag/Out (LOTO)
  • Run multiple machines as required while maintaining high quality parts, efficiency and productivity per standard time on router
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance sheet daily
  • Takes initiative to perform daily 5s in assigned area and machinery
  • Active involvement in Autonomous Maintenance and process improvements initiatives
  • Perform Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Train new operators as required
  • Follow all EHS Policies, Procedures and report all incidents immediately
  • Selects, mounts, and adjusts cutting tools; regulates time cycles; sets machine speeds, feeds and stops.

  • Applies complete knowledge of machinists hand and measuring tools.

  • Applies knowledge of metals, alloys, cutting oils and coolants, as required.

  • Parts to be lifted and/or transported may weigh up to 30 lbs.
  • Works independently
  • Keeps work area clean, safe and in an orderly fashion on a daily basis.
  • Performs other tasks of equal or lesser skill as required.

Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma, General Education Degree (GED), or apprenticeship required

Experience and Background:

  • 5+ suggested years of total experience
  • Read and interpret part drawings, work instructions, policies and procedures
  • Able to use the necessary measuring tools (Mircometers, Calipers, Dial Indicators, Comparator, Gages, etc) as required
  • Know basic troubleshooting skills
  • Adjusts machine parts and tooling
  • Perform 1st piece verification process per part print
  • Perform LOTO
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance sheet
  • Perform SPC and System 21 & 22 per part print
  • Calculate feeds and speeds
  • Run multiple machines simultaneously
  • Train other operators
  • Resharpen tooling
