Georgia-Pacific is seeking a proactive and motivated Safety Specialist for our Crossett, AR, Paper Mill. This role provides leadership and strategic direction within the safety function by applying our business framework and Principles. The Safety Specialist drives long-term value by proactively identifying and mitigating risks, ensuring the safety department's strategies align with the company's Health & Safety vision. This individual will equip department leaders with the tools and training to effectively manage safety. The position reports directly to the facility's Safety and Health Manager.

Our Team

The Georgia-Pacific Mill in Crossett, Arkansas, is situated in Southeast Arkansas and serves as a key manufacturing facility within the Crossett Paper Operations. With a workforce exceeding 550 employees, the site produces consumer products such as Angel Soft and Quilted Northern bath tissue. Crossett is a safe, modern community known for its proximity to some of the premier hunting, fishing, and wildlife areas in the Southern United States. Additionally, it is conveniently located within a short drive of shopping, dining, and entertainment venues, as well as being just a few hours away from major urban centers.

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Partner with department leadership to influence all area team members to embrace and achieve our safety strategies consistent with Koch's Safety Vision.
  • Competing demands will require a strong process approach to work, strong organizational skills, teamwork, and the ability to establish, communicate, and adhere to priorities.
  • Facilitate, identify, and drive key safety improvement plan opportunities in areas of responsibility.
  • Assist in the ongoing utilization of Hazard Identification Risk Assessments (HIRA) efforts. This involves partnering with operations to lead hazard identification and risk assessment efforts and identifying/implementing corrective actions that appropriately reduce risk.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of core safety programs. Examples of core safety programs include, but are not limited to: Lockout, Confined Space, Emergency Preparedness, Excavation and Trenching, Fall Protection, Operational Learning, Mobile Equipment, Cranes and Rigging, Personal Protective Equipment, and Save My Life permitting.
  • Participate and lead incident investigations, utilizing Human and Organizational Performance tools to enhance the organization's effectiveness in conducting investigations that focus on learning and improving our capacity to fail safely.
  • Coach and mentor personnel to facilitate ownership of safety at all levels of the organization.
  • You will need to be an influential leader and provide structure and organization to your team, driving continuous improvement and progress toward achieving our safety vision.

The Experience You Will Bring

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of safety-related work experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment or equivalent experience gained through a relevant internship
  • Experience using Human and Organizational Performance tools
  • Experience developing and implementing regulatory compliance programs and training

What Will Put You Ahead:

  • ASP, GSP, CSP, or equivalent certification
  • Safety experience in the pulp and paper industry
  • Demonstrated ability to establish sustainable systems for compliance and continuous improvement
  • Experience in managing direct reports
