DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly supervise and motivate Foremen and union personnel to safety and efficiently accomplish and carry out directives of management in the inspection, maintenance and repair of freight cars and locomotives.
  • Coordinate car and locomotive maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, material requirements, scheduling of manpower, vacations, facility service support and maintenance of physical plant through manual and computerized systems and reports.
  • Train, develop, audit and evaluate workforce.
  • Champion continuous improvement in safety, cost, productivity and quality.
  • Shift, weekend and holiday work may be required to meet business and customer needs.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Capability to work in a shop or field environment, climb ladders and walk on uneven surfaces safely.
  • Must have at least three years of leadership experience or work experience supervising 15 or more employees in a fast-paced operations environment.
  • Must have an understanding of how to perform shop management administrative duties.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, effective oral and written communication skills, managerial and leadership ability.
  • Computer literacy and basic accounting skills are required.
  • Must be able to effectively use BNSF generated management reports to manage labor and material within budget constraints.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field
  • Five years Mechanical Department experience with a minimum of three years experience as a first line supervisor
  • Comprehensive knowledge of locomotive and/or freight car maintenance practices including American Association of Railroads (AAR), Federal Railroad Association (FRA) equipment repair regulations and BNSF Policies and Procedures.
  • Experience as a skilled trades craftsperson
  • Knowledge of BNSF equipment repair standards
  • Knowledge of railroad mechanical craft union agreements
  • Three years of experience with financial applications and budget management
  • Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft desktop applications including Excel, Word and Power Point
  • Knowledge of company operations relative to the Mechanical Department.
  • Must have basic knowledge of HAZMAT response and containment procedures.

RELOCATION: Relocation assistance may be provided for this position.

TRAVEL: Some travel may be necessary for this position.
